This is my personal situation at the moment:
>Intel i7 950 @ 4Ghz Cooled with Corsair H100
>Asus P6T 1366 Mobo
>GTX 660
>12 GB Kingston RAM 1333mhz

I built the system originally with a gtx 460 in 2009, bought 660 when it came out, and started OCing 1 year ago when I bought the H100. So now that BF4 is out, I cant run on all highest settings anymore, I think an upgrade is gonna happen. I'd like some advice on if I should buy a new CPU (preferably a 4th gen i7), or an entire new GPU (nvidia). My PSU is a 750W, so dont worry I have power covered.
Things to consider:
>I run two monitors 1080p, only game on one though
>I cannot purchase another 660 to run SLI, because my mobo only runs crossfire.
>My budget is around $400 for the CPU and $450 for a GPU
>If I purchase a new processor I obviously need a new mobo, which would mean I could go SLI 660s, so maybe thats an option for the most future proof system (another thing Im trying to achieve)
Thanks in advance for an answer guys, looking forward to discussing this.

Get the new mobo and go ahead and SLI those 660's those would be just fine. Uhm, but something to consider is AMDs 8350 in case you want a finer gpu, and the advtange to that is that you could disable cores to increase IPC decrease only down to 4 cores so you can run those 4 cores optimized games, but when you need to run heavy apps, flip that 8 core switch and rip though what you need done, also, you can get sick clock speeds disabling cores and OC if you wanna do that, but the only disadvantage I think is a little less cache and a 32nm technology, so i guess you'll wanna go intel, to be fairly honest the 4670k isnt much different from the 3570k accept the lower power consumption, but rumors state those 4670ks have a higher op temp, so they get toasty and you cant OC them as well as a 3570k

So if you want a better CPU, hit that 3570k or if you feel like it that 4670k

Heres a comparasion on you're current CPU and the 3570k:
note that there is a 22nm on the 3570k unlike the 950

Thanks, You raised a good point about using i7s for my next setup, I have seen before that good i5s run high end GPUs with no problems (no bottleneck). But If I upgrade the mobo and cpu, Im thinking to go with atleast a 3770k i7, just because I believe it will run the stuff I need it to run longer than an i5 would (before I need to upgrade again). Overclocking ability is also a big part of my purchase choice, thats why I want an unlocked CPU.

Remember... 4 cores 4 threads is most optimized for gaming, if you want solely gaming, go for a quad core, but if you want to be able to havea powerful 8 core CPU for editing, and then an option to turn it to 4 cores to optimize for games and stuff... The FX-8350 is worth a peak too, sure the i7 3770k is caked with threads and a powerful 6 core cpu, but it wouldnt be optimized for games, and you just be left with a good responsive computer that can handle heavy apps rather than heavy games.
