Hey everyone...am not very well educated in matching hardware and i've done weeks of searching but maybe you guys can help me out a bit.

My plan:
Am gonna upgrade my PC over the next few months(dont have money to do it all once)

First of all, my GPU is old GT 8800 1GB and it overheats alllllll the time.
Am pretty sure that i wanna get Asus GeForce GTX 760 2GB DirectCU II OC, cause of the price and perfomance. Gonna be used for gaming and video editing(no big projects, ads and small clips).

I have a pentium p4 Pfc model st 500-cpba PSU, google gave me 500W, so that should work with GTX760(500w, 30amps). I have 2 IDE(dont laugh) HD's, no SATA, so i guess it will work for now?

Second question....motherboard.

I have an older Gigabite(cant remember what model) that only supports DDR2 and up to Intel Core 2 Quad. So i wanna replace that too after the GPU.

I want to buy i3 4130 CPU(should be enough to run all games, i found out). Dont wanna spend extra for i5, if i dont need to.
I was looking at ASUS P8H61-M LX3, which is cheap(like me), supports DDR3(i'd just get 8GB) and i3/i5/i7(if i wanna upgrade in the future). But as much as i've wondered around here... ASRock H77M LGA 1155 is what everyone suggests. Is the double price worth it? Does that support IDE HD too, cause SATA HD will be the last on my list.

Thanks to everyone who uses their time to help me with my doubts.

If you are going to but that CPU than you would need an LGA1150 motehrboard not a 1155. asisde from that you could get a decent H81 chipset motherboard for a good price from Asus, Gigabyte, ect... there would not be any piont in getting a z87 chipset unless you want to overclock or upgrade your CPU. Aside from that there is not really a point in using old HDD's with a new i3. Get a SSD or a new HDD, also right now ddr3 is cheaper than ddr2 ram and make sure your PSU is haswell certified it dos not have to be but it wil work with your system much better.

Thanks for the answer.
Ok, i see that i should swap my hd first. I'll get an Western Digital Scorpio Blue 320GB 2.5" SATA 3Gb/s 5400rpm, that should hold enough for me and keep the games running.

And what you mean by "If you are going to but that CPU than you would need an LGA1150 motehrboard not a 1155"
Does that mean ASUS P8H61-M LX3 will not work for this setup and ASRock H77M LGA 1155 will or both of them fail?

I meant that the CPU you mentioned, the i3 4130 uses a LGA 1150 socket motherboard meaning that it would not it in the z77 or h61 motherboards because the use the 1155 socket. All the desktop Intel Haswell CPU's use the new 1150 sockets instead of the previous generation Intel CPU's. You don't have to worry about it failing because it would not even fit inside the socket.

Ok, clear thing now.
Those motherboard/CPU situations confuse me alot lol

Found a great deal on Seagate Barracuda - 500GB HDD 7200rpm SATA serial ATA 6Gb/s 16MB cache, 3,5", gonna get that.

What motherboard you'd suggest for i3, 4130 CPU? i only need 2 DDR3 RAM slots and sata 6gb/s connections. Price plays big part too, so i dont need any fancy stuff on that motherboard. Only those things. Will Asus Socket 1150 H81M-E work? Seems to be the right one this time, but am not trusting my opinion on it lol

Yes. any H81 1150 board will work. The Asus H81 boards are a decent price and a solid brand. I think it is only around $100 and most entry level mainstream 1150 socket motherboards will cost about the same, more or less. before you buy any thing go to the manufucturer website to make sure the ram you select is compatible with your board. I like the Asus Maxiumus Hero MB. It is more expensive but has good value and has more options if you ever plan to upgrade to a i5 4670k or i7 4770k.

Ok, thanks for the info.
Maximus Hero is a bit out of my price range and am probably not gonna upgrade for a while.
As much for the RAM, its only DDR1,2,3 and mhz options yes? Am pretty sure i got that figured out but just incase...there isnt anything else to look for? I'll just get 2x4gb or 1x8GB 1333 or 1066 Mhz DDR3 and thats it.

i would say you should not get anything less than 1600mhz. That is the standard right now. And DDR4 is due to come out next year so the standards will increase so some applications and games will see a performance boost from faster RAM.

ok, thats good info. I'll look for 1600mhz RAM then.
What about my PSU. Will that give out enough power for all those new parts or do i need to get new PSU with the new GPU that am looking?

And thanks for your help, i owe you a beer for that! :)

Sorry about the delay I have been offline since this morning. But I am not sure about the PSU you mentioned. Is it an old Star tech? If you are getting a GTX 760 along with your i3 4130 then you would need a at least 500w PSU (haswel certified) with at least 35 amps the 12v rail, which should not be hard to find. Corsair and Seasonic are really good choices for a PSU and it good is to get PSU with more wattage than what you need. Most new power supplies operate at their highest effiency at around 50%-70% load. so a good 550-600w 80 plus bronze to gold PSU would be a good choice.

Thanks. I'll look into the PSU thing. I dont speak "electricity" so i'll just ask the seller for a matching one.
Thanks, you've been a big help and i cant wait to fire this thing up!
