120GB Samsung 840 Evo, or 120GB Kingston HyperX 3K?

Hello,

I'm currently in the market for a 120GB (or possibly more) SSD to be used as a boot drive, as well as running some programs and a few games on it. I'm planning to purchase around Black Friday or Cyber Monday.

My budget is < $100, or a little more for higher capacity.

I'm currently stuck between:

Kingston HyperX 3K: http://www.amazon.com/Kingston-HyperX-2-5-Inch-SH103S3-120G/dp/B007R67FNA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1384973597&sr=8-1&keywords=HyperX+3k

And the Samsung 840 Evo: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Electronics-EVO-Series-2-5-Inch-MZ-7TE120BW/dp/B00E3W15P0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1384973655&sr=8-2&keywords=840+Evo

I'm not sure if it's worth the extra $10 for an 840 Evo. Or even an extra $20-30 for an 840 Pro.
Since I'm coming from an HDD, I'm looking more into reliability than performance. I'm also open to better suggestions as well. :D

Anyways, thanks!

  1. EVO840 is probably considered the best entry level SSD. In both performance and reliability ratio. If you look for the article, even Tom's gave it a mention on their (latest?) SSD's for money review/comparison.

  2. Evo is just amazing! I've bought one, and am very happy with! Total compatibility with Slackware 14.1, and Windowze of course. No issues, very fast, easy to update firmware with Samsung app (on Windows) if you care about that. Samsung Evo is really a good option! By me, it worth more than $10. Don't know about the 840 PRO ones.
