I am looking to upgrade (within a $500 budget) to a new 700 series card from nVidia and every where i look people are saying to go with a GTX 770 because it OC's to nearly 780 specs for nearly $200 dollars less.

So, with that said, I am running an eyefinity 6036x1080 res right now on a XFX 7870 GHZ edition. And i am wondering about the 4GB version of a 770 and how it really a 2gbx2 on the same bandwith. I saw a post about calculations and 2gb needs 256bit so 4 would need 512., I understand architecture of the 770 core will make better use of the 256bit but still i wonder if it is worth paying more for the 4gb card and if i will even use 4GB of vram. Or should i just go with the 780 regular ( not Ti ).

Please can some one help explain when 2GB vram is too little and how the bit bandwith will impact my triple monitor gaming and i am most likely going to SLI in the future but it will be quite some time.

specs of my pc are:
i7 2600K
Gigabyte P67A-UD7-B3 mobo
16 GB G.Skill sniper 1600mhz DDR3
XFX 7870 GHZ DD 2GB Edition
Corsair 750 watt psu

my general understanding is that with any 2GB graphics card, including up to the GTX770, considering current games, you won't be able to push the graphics quality settings and AA high enough whilst maintaining 60fps, as such a high resolution to be able to use more than 2GB.

As an example, my o/c 7950 crossfire generally exceed the performance of a GTX780ti, yet if I try BF4 (which is not very graphically demanding, 50% GPU usage) at 4k (8.3Mp, a bit more than your 6.5Mp), then I only get 30fps, with the GPUs running flat out (ultra settings, 4xMSAA). The Vram usage is 2.7GB.

for an eyefinity setup, definitely get the 4gb version, will easily go over 2gb vram in many games. i found in some parts, crysis 2 chews up 1.9gb at 1080p on ultra, can only imagine what future games will do. If i were you id look at the 4gb 290, faster than a 780 and not much more costly than a 4gb 770.
