So I'm building a new rig, primarily for gaming (BF4 and some other less demanding stuff), and I want to get a 27" monitor with hopes to run at 2560x1440. So my dilemma: Should I go for a Korean 27" 1440 (Qnix), which are priced pretty well, but carry the risk of dead pixels and only seem to have 8ms response time. OR, should I get a cheap 27" 1080 now as a stopgap and hold out for G-Sync? Will G-sync make it more likely that I can push higher FPS at 1440 with my current GPU? Thanks.

I agree, go with an Asus, BenQ or Acer monitor, as you'll be much happier with those, even if you are paying a little more for them.

Yea, it's not like in food how sometimes the name brands aren't much better, technology generally goes by the more you pay the more you get (Not true 100% of the time) but if you want something reliable, go with a reliable company. I use Dell monitors because I love the looks and they work amazingly

Anyone saying to stick w 1080p has obviously never gamed in 1440p.

I HIGHLY recommend a Korean screen, the qnix for about 350$ can be overclocked to 120Hz giving you the best of both worlds.

I have a "good quality" 1080p gathering dust in the corner while the 1440 is rocking on the desk.

You will NEVER go back to 1080p after gaming at 1440.
