Sending cable signal throughout the house

I own a two family home in which i do not plan on renting the apartment until i move out. The cable provider will not run cable lines to my upper apartment because they want to ensure they are paid for each unit independently in the future, which i respect and understand. I will be in this home for at least 5 more years and want to have the option of watching my cable upstairs without running lines myself.

Any recommendations or advice? Do i use my ps3? A roku? Sling box? I'm open to all ideas.

you can hook the cable box up yourself and run the wire yourself.

just tell them you need another box to put in another room and they will send you one. you might have to pay an extra $5 a month or so for the box but you will have access to cable like the rest of the house.

somoene i know has a duplex and shares cable and internet with their tenant. he ordered a box and i just hooked the wires up via a splitter (as you would typically do when adding another box) and it all works great.

it sounds like the cable company is just getting greedy and i think you should stick one to them and DIY. there is no reason for them to refuse as for at least 5 years it is going to be a single family home, divided or not.

honestly all a cable tv line consists of is a standard coax cable. its really easy to set up.

1. call up the provider and get them to ship you another cable box for use in another room. (a regular 2nd room add-on box)
2. run a coax line up to the new room.
3. connect up to the main source with a splitter per the diagrams provided for setting up secondary rooms.
4. call a number on the phone and set the cable box to activate using the provided instructions.

we did this with fios however other providers should be similar.
