i need help with chosing a CPU and a motherboard for my new gaming build. It's going to look mostly like this:

GPU: Powercolor HD 7950 (Powercolor because it's cheaper than other brands on amazon.de and got many positive reviews)
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws X 8GB
HDD: WD Blue 1TB
SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 120gb
PSU: XFX Core Edition 550W
Case: Corsair 300r
CPU Cooler: CM Hyper 212 EVO

Should i go down the intel or AMD road?

Because of a limited budget, the intel cpu and mb would be i5 4570 and ASrock Fatal1ty H87, and the AMD cpu and mb would be AMD FX-8320 (which i would overclock) and Asus M5A99FX PRO R 2.0

Which CPU would be better for gaming, and would a 550W psu be enough for the overclocked 8320?

Also, are these motherboards a good choice?

The i5 would be better. It offers 4 threads which games use, whereas the amd offers more than 4 threads. Most games use a maximum of 4 threads at the moment so the amd CPU would be slower in games.

The psu should be sufficient unless you are planning to sli in the future

What about a comparison between the fx-8320 and i5 3570: would there be a big difference between the two? I'm currently trying to decide whether to build my system around an AMD fx-8320 and an i5 3570. Either system would be paired with a Radeon 280x ro the 7950/7970. Motherboards for either would cost about the same at approximately $100 so the big difference in price would be the cpu.

There wont be a noticeable difference between the performance of the AMD and intel at 1080p resolutions

There definitely would not be a need for a stronger power supply either .

The 990X board can crossfire two graphics cards . Your power supply is not powerful enough for that so you can save some money and use the ASUS M5A97 R2.0 [ not the le version ]. Performance will be the same

I have used Powercolor graphics cards and the quality is fine

Thank you all for the answers.. I am probably going to go with FX-8320 paired with the ASUS M5A97 R2.0, that will save me a bit of money compaired with the intel offering (which is always a good thing), and still give, from what i've heard, neat performance. I only have one more question regarding the 970 motherboard, is there any difference in overclocking and future cpu upgrading potential compared to the 990fx boards?
