We need more detail as to what's wrong here. Is there a small round grey icon in the bottom right corne of your screen and if so, when you click it can you raise the volume? That might help.

Also, look in Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices and click the Audio tab. Is it all greyed out or are there default devices showing up?
