i am planning to upgrade to an Asus r9 280x which requires 1x6-pin and 1x8-pin pcie power connections. however my 1st gen Thermaltake Toughpower 850w psu only supports 6-pin pcie cords.

the psu should be powerful enough for the card, and even though i would like to, i cannot afford to upgrade my psu at the moment. so my options are either 6pin to 8pin power adaptor or 2xMolex to 8pin adaptor. is one solution better then the other in delivering required power? does anyone have experience with these type of psu/adaptor/card setups and can give some much needed advice? brand of adaptor (athena power and startech were a couple i found on newegg) to look for?

thanks in advance
