im a mediocre gamer and i wanna replace my good old gtx460 card. my mobo only supports crossfire (so i cant buy a new nvidia card). ive been doing a little research and according to those benchmarks on interwebs msi twin frozr cooling solution is dead silent and good for more overclocking. tempted to buy double r9 270x and build crossfire with them.
i know that nvidia doing great job at software part (all those fixes, driver updates and game optimizitions) but at the other hand there is amd's mantle api announcement/having hardware parts in upcoming ps4. those 2 reasons make me believe in amd's future :)

before anyone replies like below;
* "if u want silent spec then go buy water cooling system for your hardware" - im not experienced with water cooling and i dont wanna mess with extra stuff inside my rig.
* "change your mobo and buy a sli supporting one -> get nvidia gtxXX0" - not an option for me right now.

tl;dr - need tips to replace my old vga card (nearly 4 years old) to get something new and plan to use it 3+ years at least.

I suggest single powerfull AMD card for future crossfire use because first it can play most of the high end games. When your VGA can not handle it anymore in the future, you can buy a high end VGA for a much more lower price to crossfire with your current. :)

While the 270x is an amazing GPU for it's cost.... I always suggest against CF or SLI if there is a single GPU that would be more powerful, in this case it would be a single 280x or even a 290x (if you have the money and you are willing to wait for partner coolers).

I always suggest against CF/SLI as there are a lot of inherent issues with most games, I spent the last 2 years running Crossfire and SLI setups until I finally got fed up with having to get games working and just upgraded to a single GPU. I've had 2x 7870 CF (about the same as the 270x) as well as 770 4gb SLI, in both cases I had a hell of a time getting a lot of games to work perfectly, some having to disable the secondary card and play with primary just to get gameplay smooth.

You are much better off with a single 280x than you are a 270x CF configuration. While you would see better performance in some key games (BF4) you would have a lot of issues with other games (CoD Ghosts, ACreed4, Tombraider, Sleeping Dogs, etc etc).

This^ I always suggest buying the best SINGLE card solution you can afford.
