I've always enjoyed both console and PC gaming (and, subsequently, Steam), and currently have both a PS3 and a laptop, which is only really decent for gaming.

Although the PS4's launch offerings have been meagre so far, I still have hope for it, but I'm also very tempted to buy a Steam Machine, although whether or not I do depends largely on the price and whether or not it's possible to play non-Steam games on it (such as Battlefield 4, a game I've been hoping to get).

So, should I get PS4 at some point in the near future, or pin my hopes to SteamOS and Steam Machines being good? (Also, I'm not greatly interested in the Xbone)

More about : ps4 steam

a steam box is more like a gaming pc in a console case to place next to ur tv. the ps4 will last till the next(next)-gen while the steam box will probably need upgrades just like a higher end gaming pc

Being able to modify a Steam Machine for future gens is one of the main appeals for me, but I'm still not sure whether or not it's too risky to go for SteamOS when we still don't know a lot about it.

steamOS will probably be a big succes once people start realizing steam consoles perform on average 3x better than a regular ps4. I mean a steambox is just a gaming pc in a versy small case with a linux based operating system and lots of options (in-game aswell; like AA).
If u like to upgrade you should wait for the Steam box.

The Steam Machies definitely look like the best bet, but there's still something that makes me wary about it: it seems it will only be compatible with Linux-capable games. But since the PS4's exclusives released so far don't look fantastic, I'll wait a while before choosing either.

Steam doesn't have exclusives or any ea games such as battlefield series. It's behind the grade before it even starts.

you can install Windows on it, so it will run everything else as well
anyway, if loads of people use it, then companies will see that there is a big range of people who will buy Linux games, so they will make games to SteamOS
