First of all, I just wanna say that this isn't really a question but I would like to hear some opinions.

Current system: i7 2600
8Gb DDR3 1333Mhz
GT630
750W power supply

I'm building a system to handle next-gen games for 4 years. I'm fine with 40fps at 1080p and don't mind if I have to tone down the settings from Ultra to High. I honesty don't mind what settings I need to play my games at as long as I can play games better than the next-gen consoles. I also know that I should wait for Maxwell but I desperately want to upgrade because the GT630 is extremely bad as I can't even play Assassin's Creed on the lowest setting.

I know that consoles get optimizations during it's lifespan but is it really that much? Because I look at the 8800gt and it still runs games at higher resolutions, framerates and settings than either the PS3 or 360 and that's a 2007 GPU!!!!! Also, usually when they "optimize", the games are mostly run at lower settings and resolutions than the PC counterparts. I look at Crysis 3 and sure it's amazing that it runs on the PS3/360 but it also runs at settings lower than the lowest setting on PC not to mention a sub 720 resolution, 1024X720. Heck, most of the games on the PS3/360 natively run at sub-hd resolutions such as 880X720, 1024X720 with some even at 540p. This is why I don't see console optimization as magical as people claim it to be. Theoretically, if you took a 7800gtx (PS3 is based on this gpu), wouldn't it seem plausible that it should be able to run the newer games but also at those same sub-hd resolutions? So ya, I believe consoles are optimized but when people claim it makes it 4X or 5X more powerful, I think those people are dead wrong.

So I would like to know what you guys think about a GTX760 keeping up with the PS4/X1 bearing in mind the things I've said. I think it should last easily if I don't plan on maxing out every game at 60fps for 4 years but I really do believe it should keep up with the PS4/X1. So ya, that's what I think and I'd really like to hear other opinions.

I've checked the benchmarks and that 15fps difference isn't a big enough reason for me to go with the 770. Besides, I live in South Africa and the 760 is already equivalent to $380, the 770 is equivalent to $600-$700. It's just too much for me.

I think you'll probably be fine with a 760 for the next four years, lowest settings would probably only go down to about medium with playable frames 40+.However have you considered the AMD side of things? They are pretty cheap now that the r9 series has come out. I would recommend a 7870, I believe they are in the same price range as the 760. AMD cards are also very flexible when it comes to Dual gpu's (Xfire) incase you want to upgrade down the road. I think in your price range AMD would offfer the most bang for your buck.

I considered AMD but the equivalent card is more expensive here in my country. Also, I looked at benchmarks and it seems that the 760 is a comparable to and actually a bit faster than the 7950 not the 7870. I also am not planning on using sli or crossfire because I have a cheap, basic board. If like you say, I'll have to play games at medium settings in 4 years, I honestly would not have a problem with that.

Yep, the 7870 is the equivalent to the 660 there's no real comparison between it and the 760

We're also slowly reaching the point where graphics almost don't matter anymore, with extremely crisp textures and effects seen in games such as Crysis 3 medium settings in a few years are still going to look beautiful so that wouldn't really be a worry

Even so, in 4 years the middle end budget cards of that time would still make a nice upgrade over the 760 so you should have no problem with playing games on higher settings at that time, especially since your i7 should definitely last well till then
