win xp upgrade to win 7

Any suggestions for upgrading my XP to Win 7 for my old Sony Vaio. Any danger of losing my data or my programs, or completely screwing up my computer?

There is no upgrade option.
You will need to do a new install.
Then you will have to reinstall all of your programs.

First thing is to make sure you can get Win 7 drivers for the old laptop. Without driver support the onboard devices will not function.

Thanks. I guess I may as well bite the bullet and buy a new laptop with win 7 already on it. XP is becoming less functional and obsolete, though I have been happy with it and know it well.
