Hello there experts!,

I am checking out these two motherboards to go with my new build but i am not sure which one i should pick, because these two look very similar in performance and I/O but the pricing is different.

I'll be mainly Working, Rendering 3D, Music & Sound Production and a little bit of gaming (not a gamer though).

2. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131800

I am in no way an expert on this so I would like to ask your opinions on which of these i should pick for my build.
Any help would be appreciated :)

In your situation I'd focus on the layout and IO mainly. I suspect you won't need the onboard sound much, or be ocing too heavily if this is more a workstation build. Hence the Pro is probably a good bet for you. If using a Xeon and youneed ECC support then the P9X79 E WS is what we offer for the "prosumer".

Hej Raja,

Thank you for your help!

But these two do look very similar in terms of I/O's. I am not entirely sure why the Rampage IV is much more expensive?
Am i missing something in the BIOS or something this board can handle in future setups that the WS can not? Some native runtimes, the onboard soundcard, Xeon Cpu's?
Thanks for your help!

and even though i wont OC, i'd love the opportunity to do so in the future if the need comes up.

Edit:
Does the ASUS P9X79 PRO LGA 2011 Support i7 Extreme Editions? In my case i7-4960X?
The website im buying from only states i7, but i7 Extreme for the Rampage IV board so im a little bit confused on that part.

The BE has OC features that the Pro does not - and thats why it's more expensive:

1) SupremeFX audio - negates the need for a soundcard. SOnic Radar, Gamefirst LAN sofwtare etc.

2) OC Panel - on the fly OC changes and monitoring.

3) Dedicated onboard hardware for overclocking related voltage rails and signal bias.

4) Optimized PCB and DRAM trace layout for overclocking.

The black edition is geared towards users that wan to OC competitively, or want a few more gaming features.

If you only need a board based on the IO, then go for the cheaper option. The ROG Extreme boards are for enthusiasts that don't have cost at the top of their buying agenda.

As for what each board supports, if you navigate to the ASUS support page for each board, you'll find all the resources listed for CPU support, manuals, specifications and the special features of each board...
