Turning a single link DVI connection from a Dell into a dual link to connect to Apple 30" Cinema Display

Does anyone know if I can turn my single link DVI connection at the back of my Dell into a dual link DVI connection in order to support the addition of a 30 inch Apple Cinema Display with an adapter?

I have a 4550 HD ATI Radeon Video Card that is single link only.

I'm trying to avoid upgrading my video card by using an adapter if possible.

Nope, can't be done. An adapter won't add extra info into the signal that weren't there in the first place.

Okay. Thanks Kari. I'll look to replace my video card then. How does one choose a new dual link video card? I do not game but like super high resolution and clear graphics. The 6570 would be better, the quadro card is pretty old and even though it is part of the professional range of cards I think the high age really is against it.
