I heard there was a modification you could make to FX cpus to improve single core performance.

Apparently, shutting off a core in each module in a FX-8350 will drastically improve performance in gaming. Is this true?

That might have been true in bulldozer times, but piledriver reduced the hit from the second thread on the same module. Also, games are more multithreaded now, so you are more likely to hurt performance.
