Hey Guys,

I'm trying to get a streamlined budget PC Gaming performance - currently i just play on my laptop which has intel HD integrated graphics 3000 on an i5-2430m. Thats fine for laggy gameplay of skyrim and fifa but unplayable for FPS and any Racing games.

So basically I want a £400-£500 if possible setup. I've read around and it seems the AMD A10-5800k is my best bet but i was wondering whether i could combine this with a cheapo graphics card to maybe bolster performance? The cards I have to hand are the geforce 8600gt (probably ancient I found it in the attic) and an ATI Firepro 2460, though any student friendly suggestions are welcomed.

I was thinking to have it all done on PC Specialist, If anyone could advise whether this would be a good idea it'd be greatly appreciated.

I've also read that a 24" monitor is better than a TV for such gaming, I wonder whether anyone could shed light on this issue.

P.S. apologies for any noob-ness its my first post and foray into "Proper" computing.

The on-die 7660D with the A10-5800K is superior to the cards you mention. It is about the equivalent of the HD 6670 DDR3 discrete card. But the 7660D is basically a 720p gfx card. At 1080p resolutions, you will have to dial back the settings considerably.
If you stay with the 7660D, be sure to use 1866MHZ system memory for fastest results. Since the on-die GPU uses system memory for its "VRAM", it needs the fastest RAM the APU's controller can use.
If you move to a discrete card to replace the on-die GPU, look for one with GDDR 5 VRAM, not GDDR 3.
Here is a hierarchy chart of gaming gfx cards to get an idea of where they rank: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107-7.html
