Hi everyone, this is my first post here. I'm just asking this out of curiosity.

So I'm planning to build a pc on Boxing Day this year, but I'm planning on using antec fans which have sat in my shed for two years (planned on building one then but changed my mind and just left them). And I want to check if they still work so I can order replacements if they don't.

Would it be safe to plug just them in on my power supply via molex? I have a corsair rm series psu but no motherboard yet. Getting it at Xmas.

Would the psu just overload the fans?

Also moon the topic, do you guys prefer to plug fans in to molex via power supply or 3-pin on the board? My fans can with connectors for both and I'm just wondering what to use.

Thanks everyone :-) Dan

dont see why not. i got that on one rig here. it will just run full speed. molex or board 3/4pin is all good just some boards dont give as many on board fan connectors as you may want so the molex deal is good atleast it has for me

Anyone interested, it doesn't work. I think you may need to have the board plugged in to complete the circuit. Or I have 7 broken fans :-)

well this one box i got here i got 1 fan on the case door and the hd fan hooked up to the molex connector of the power supply and the rest are on board with the 3 / 4 pin and work fine. but it could be that the power supply you got may not power up unless it connected to a board [??] never ran a ps with out it being all hooked up and ready to go. sorry
