New PC Build; POST Successful but No Display

My old computer died, so I decided to build my first custom PC as a replacement. I looked on Logical Increments to make sure all the parts would work together and finished putting it together yesterday after using multiple guides. I actually managed to get it to boot correctly the first time. The POST is successful as there is only a single beep. However, there is no display on my monitor or the HDTV. I tried using a DVI to VGA converter for the monitor and the HDMI output for the HDTV with nothing showing up on either. My question is a couple of things:

1. When I first boot up a new PC with no OS on it, will it even boot to a screen or do I have to press a key? (my motherboard manual says Delete key which I pushed / held but still nothing)

2. I tried to save money by using my old power supply and graphics card because they were newer in the old computer so I figured they were fine. However on this site I read a single beep with no display means either one could be bad, and I'm worried one or the other overheated in my awful old rig. How do I know which one is bad? Of course I bought a motherboard with no integrated graphics and I do not have a graphics card I could test with. I have no problem replacing either one but don't want to do so unnecessarily.

Here are the specs:

Rosewill Gaming ATX Mid Tower Case, Black R5

ASUS M5A97 R2.0 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

AMD FD6300WMHKBOX FX-6300 6-Core Processor Black Edition

Seagate Barracuda 1 TB HDD SATA 6 Gb/s NCQ 64MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Bare Drive ST1000DM003

Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB Kit (4GBx2) DDR3 1600 MT/s (PC3-12800) CL9 @1.5V UDIMM 240-Pin Memory BLS2CP4G3D1609DS1S00

ATI Radeon HD 5770 graphics card

Ultra X-Power 650 W power supply

Your motherboard manual should tell you what your beep code means, different manufacturers use different sequences for different things.

edit: if your system is posting/booting correctly you should at least see the BIOS screen even with no OS installed

The motherboard manual says a one beep code means the boot was successful. I am leaning towards a graphics card issue but the fan on it is moving when the PC boots. Does that mean anything?

since your manual says one beep mean correct post, then I would suspect the GPU. If you have a known good alternate available (or a friend has one you can borrow) try using it. If you get an output, then you have a bad GPU. You can try moving your GPU to a working computer and see if it works there.

Thanks for the help. I think I'm going to pick up this card as it is in stock at my Best Buy. Thoughts on the card?

XFX - Core Edition Radeon HD 7750

Not looking for a super high end gaming card but I don't want a cheap card that could crap out or has minimal video support. Is this card a good choice? Don't want to spend $110 for an overpriced card.

EDIT: This seems a much better choice for only $10 more. Thoughts?
It's the same card but the 7770

Good news! Replaced the graphics card (got the Radeon 7850 for $108 on sale!) and everything works perfect! Thanks for the help.

EDIT: I get a BSOD with and error saying pfn_list_corrupt everytime. Anyone know what that means?
