I have a Dell 5150 that a friend gave me (not working) to tinker around with. Replaced p/s and loaded windows XP pro 2nd sp and it worked. The cpu seems to work good but say's Intel "D". Does this mean only for Dell or can it work with other mb's? If so what mb's should I be looking for. Nice machine inside. Love to tinker.

here the service guild. also google the motherboard part number for the dell for more info like cpu that can be swapped into the mb. the intel cpu at the time the d did not make it a dell cpu intel had a d line of cpu back then.

with the dell case some of them are non standard case. they on switches or power supplys are non standard to force the end user to buy dell parts. with the case if it a standard atx case then a standard motherboard will fit. with older dell replace the power supply if your going to game with the pc. also take a tape measure to the back of the case. messure the lenth from the back of the case to the hard drive bays. some cases if the bays are close to the rear of the case some cases have 9 inch gpu max card lenth. some case vendors leave a splot open that lines up with the first pci vidoe card slot so you can use 10-12 inch long gpus. also newer mb dont have ide ports on them they went sata ports.

That would be a "Pentium D" CPU ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentium_D ). Nice dual-core CPU but tends to run hot and needs lots of air (or water cooling) to keep it from melting.
