AMD R9 290X vs EVGA GTX 780 SC ACX??

Why would someone buy the AMD R9 290X vs GTX 780 SC ACX? Every benchmark I have read says that the GTX 780 SC is slightly more powerful then the 290X. Am I wrong? I just bought the GTX 780 SC for 500 on Amazon with the 3 free games thing. Should I have gotten the R9 290X with Battlefield 4 for 599 or did I make the right decision? This is for gaming at 1920x1200. Maybe 2K display in the future. Thanks.

290X Ref cooler is crap, and i heard that they're diferent then the press one and the retail one is slower then the 290. They offer similiar performance, the 290X was cheaper but since bitcoin minecoin and stuff the price become more expensive. In this debate i'll go with the 780. But if you want to go for 2K go get the R9 290 non refence cooler, would be a beast.
