I just received a new AMD FX 6 Core Black Edition CPU for Christmas so I could upgrade my current AMD Athlon II dual core processor but before replacing it, I'm worried if my current motherboard will support it. I looked under the "CPU Support" part of the webpage and it seems to only support Athlon and Phenoms, but I thought I'd ask the community as my father who works on computers said it doesn't really matter that much...
Current Motherboard: http://us.msi.com/product/mb/880GM-E43.html#/?div=Overview
Beautiful CPU I'm looking to use: http://shop.amd.com/us/All/Detail/Processor/FD6300WMHkBOX?SearchTerms=FD6300WMHKBOX#Details

If the motherboard will not support it, what are some good motherboards I could replace my current one with around $100 I suppose...
I am using a EVGA GTX 550TI 2G graphics card currently so a new motherboard would need to house that too.

I will be calling MSI and AMD in the morning to see what they say also, but thought I'd give a try here too. Thanks.

u can try it, but not too sure on how well it will work as without the bios update it may not be fully clocked, may not get power correctly, if u feel like it may work go ahead lol but i can tell u now that msi and amd will prob tell u that either it will not work or will break something along those lines.

A good board to replace it with would be a gigabyte 970a-ud3/ud3p or asus m5a97 r2, both great boards for under $100 would go with the gigabyte as its power design allows for overclocking, and if ur not gonna overclock the reliability and quality is there.

Unfortunately no, you need a AM3+ socket mobo for the FX-6000 series.

This is a popular and solid one. $80 after rebate:
