Hi title gives you the main jist. I was wondering which GPU to purchase with money earned from my HD 6870 being refunded. It's between the PowerColor R9 270X devil edition or the Gigabyte GTX 760 windforce 3x REV.2 the PC will be primarily used for gaming and school work and I need the one which will give good FPS in 1440x900 (initially then 1080p+ in the future when I can buy a new monitor) in games like BF4 Diablo 3 Rage Batman : AO etc. I also wouldn't mind upgrading to xFire or SLI in a year or twos time. My system specs are as follows :
AMD A8 3870k @ 3.8ghz
8gb ddr3 1600mhz
Cooler master silent pro M2 620W PSU

More about : gtx 760 amd 270x

The GTX 760 is a significantly faster card as far as I am aware, so go with that.

http://www.hwcompare.com/15662/geforce-gtx-760-vs-radeo... the gtx 760 is fast on memory bandwith and texel rate so i would go with that. Nvidia is also a good choice because with nvidia gpu's you get geforce experience, gpu boost 2.0 (on the 700 series), evga precision x (the easiest OC and gpu monitoring program IMO) and with the evga version of 760 you get the new acx coolers that run super quite and super good

Well I was looking at the gigabyte one because I have £200 and the EVGA ones are around the £230 mark

But for games like BF4 isn't the 270X faster and isn't openCL/GL better for work?

Don't think so.

And that's a best case scenario afaik as it was a AMD optimized title, Nvidia drivers may have improved a little now the game has been out a while.

For the few extra FPS and the £40 increase I think I'll go for the 270x thanks for the help anyway!

Well if you are not overclocking it go with the 270X. If you are get a GTX 760. It overclocks really well almost matching a 770. A MSI HAWK gtx 270X just about matches a stock 760 if you overclock it as it has voltage control.

For what its worth I recommend the MSI Gaming series for the 760.

For current gen 270X is more than enough. For next gen you are looking at a 760 Minimum.
