I am a new engineering graduate and am ready to upgrade from my old 6700 based box.

I know my way around hardware well enough, but this is my first fresh build. I am going to be building this in a pelican case, so I will not be needing a case. I would like to spend around $700.

This PC will be used for a variety of engineering applications (Solidworks, ANSYS, Inventor, Mastercam, MATLAB). I do not game often, but I am known to go on a gaming binge for a few weeks when a game catches my eye. I would like to stick with on board video for now. I am hoping the money saved on the video card will help me spend more on a fully featured motherboard and larger power supply to future upgrades, and practical longevity. I have quite a few SATA drives for bulk storage, but I think a 128GB SSD will be my primary drive.

My current plan is to build around a 4670k. This seems to be the best bang for the buck option, but I am worried I might wish I had hyperthreading capabilities. I am open to processor upgrades later on for longevity. Should I be looking at anything else for my budget?

Here is my current newegg wishlist. Am I on track?

that motherboard is too much. You would be fine with any basic z87 motherboard such as

The z87 A is SLI compatible, but if you only plan on using 1 video card, you can get the z87-k for 110.

and this power supply will run about $40
