I can't decide between these cards. I was leaning toward 290x non-reference but the price is too high. Reference goes for $600, and I can't imagine how much it will cost for the non-reference. My local Fry's has GTX 780 FTW for $550 and I heard that overclocked 780 beats 290x. I will be doing most of my games on 1080p resolution. Which one do you think I should get?

Hi,

You should buy a r9 290 non x version. It costs less than gtx 780 and it is tie-to tie with it in most games, and has a bit more power in terms of clockspeed/memory etc. the r9 290 will also use mantle in the future.

The r9 290 has a lot more power than the gtx 780, but it does not overexceed the gtx 780 in the display category.

The r9 290 are being sold at some stores, but not every store has them yet.If you can get your hands on one, buy either the Sapphire Toxic/HIS ICEHQ2 TURBO/MSI Twinfroz or a Asus version of the card- If you don't want to wait, grab a 780 (Gigabyte/Zotac/MSI).
Also, some of the r9 280x-290x models are way too overpriced atm in some stores. Beter wait out until they put the prices down or search for a store that sells them cheaper.
Hope this helps^^

Definately. If the gtx 780 costs less, go with that.
