Hi there! Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me with this. Recently, I just built my own gaming computer from money I saved from a part time job. I've put about $600 in it so far, and I can run games like FC3 and Team fortress 2 maxed out all the way. But, like many gamers, I like to expand my library, and I've recently got into Planetside 2 which is one of the most demanding games. EVER. While my rig can run Ps2 on medium settings it CRAWLS in a firefight, making the game no more fun than a sandbox game you can run around in, but can't really shoot anything. Bummer. Anyways, in my ignorance, recently I decided to get Battlefield 4, and suprisingly, my comp can run medium fairly well, at nothing less than 30 fps. But I really want to play 60+fps on my games, as we all know, in any fps, 60+ is ideal. So let me get to the point. Below I've posted everything my computer is made of. I really want to upgrade, but I'm not sure what my bottleneck is. IT'S NOT MY GPU. Or at least, I won't buy another GPU since I've already upgraded once. I suspect it's my CPU that's the problem, but hey, who knows, maybe it's the RAM or whatever. Or maybe It's a software issue. Whatever it is, please help me if you can so I can fix this thing. If it's the CPU, I've been thinking that I might get the AMD FX 4130 which is $69 at one site. If you have a better idea for my CPU please let me know.

-------The Guts of My Rig:

AMD Athlon X2 270 3.4ghz dual core CPU

Sapphire Radeon HD7770 OC edition GPU

6 gigs of RAM

Biostar A960d+ MOBO

Logysis 480Watt PSU

Coolermaster HAF 912 Case <--------- As if that could possibly be the bottleneck.

So, again thanks in advance for any ideas you might have, and I do apologize for making you read this massive paragraph on my computer problems. I might as well make it an essay for school It's so dang long! Anyways, thanks again, I appreciate any advice you have to offer.

PSU Logisys is as bad as it gets and on top of the avoid list, CPU is old dual core and may even bottleneck the HD7770. 6 GB of ram on a board that supports dual channel only works if you have 2 x 2GB sticks and 2 x 1GB sticks in dual channel. Motherboard is an OK budget board and you got a great case! Most likely the case would be the only thing I would keep!

The Athlon X2 is is most likely the issue. Grab a 8320 like swifty_morgan said and that should help. And yes you also have to be careful playing at higher resolutions will push your FPS down and put more demand on your GPU.

he needs aboard too. his won't support a viable upgrade.

In bf4 1440x900. Lowering it does nothing really. In ps2 1040x768. And what does my mobo have to do with in game fps?

So, basically you guys are saying to get a fx4130? I mean, $69 sounds like a steal.

I really don't have deep pockets right now so I don't think I can afford a new CPU and mobo.

You're right I forgot to add in that in most possible upgrade situations you will need a new motherboard because the new CPU you buy will not be compatible with your current board. But if your current board is AM3+ it should be compatible with the FX series of AMD CPUs.

I wouldn't get any FX-*1** processors, get a piledriver not a bulldozer if you can...I mean the FX 1 series aren't AWFUL but not great.

My mobo is am3 + so no problems there. Here's the 4130 for $69:

I forgot about microcenter haha. If you can grab it for that price I wouldn't wait and it should come with a new heatsink for it and that would be the end of your problems for a while.

So I was about to buy the 4130 off of microcenter but it's only available for in store pickup!! The nearest store is 200 miles away, so that won't work. I was about to pay $90 for it on amazon, but then I decided that if I put $20 more in I could really upgrade and get a 6300. So I did. Thanks again guys!
