after adding new memory,computer wont boot

I have an hp pavillion slimline 400-34 it said it is capable of having 16 gb of ddr3 ram so i bought 2x4gb of PNY DDR3 ram at best buy. They said it would work with my computer but when i put it in it wouldnt boot up.I have no idea whats wrong with it.Im confused now >_<

Go into BIOS and make sure the memory voltage and timings are set right. If you are running a 32Bit OS, you will only be able to use 4GB.

I'd take it to Best Buy and tell them they said it would work - make it work! Stores like that will tell you about anything for a sale - and by doing so it can be considered false advertising

well i tried the sticks individually and they both work so i know that,but when i put them together my mouse wont even turn or my keyboard the computer starts up but nothing is on the display

Bad part with most prebuilts is that you often can't adjust timings or voltages on DRAM, which is how many times you can get them to play nice
