Hello everyone,
im a new member here so apologies if i get anything like posting in a certain section wrong. I have a PC which i built with a friend around 5 years go. The specs are:

-A-Open Case (with 350w PSU)
-MSI G31M3-F Motherboard
-Intel Dual Core processor ( I believe its E5200 but may be E5300--LGA 775 Socket)
-OCZ Value PC2-5300 667Mhz Ram 1GB (x2 - 2GB in total)
-2 Optical Drives (1 is broken)
-1 Floppy Disk Drive
-1 500gb SATA HDD (western Digital 5200RPM)

I was quite young when this was built (15 Years old) and it was my old mans friend who built it for us. I was really interested in PC's then and as a result do know a fair share about PCS, i have since build numerous PCs for friends so i do know my stuff to diagnose this machine rather than give it to a technician who will most likely rip me off. I now have a problem which i cannot diagnose and the lad who built the pc for unfortunately passed away a few years ago.

I am now at uni and the pc is for general use at home with mum and dad the main users so i dont need a top of the range pc. The problem is the PC turns on but i get no output on the display. Ive unplugged everything apart from HDD and still the same problem. The CPU fan works, case fans also work so i dont think its the PSU. I have tried removing one ram stick to see if it works with the other one( tried this the other way round too so ive tried booting with each ram stick) but nothing again. I get no Beep codes when it starts, and even if i try and boot with NO RAM i still dont get any beep codes. To be honest i cant say 100% if the speaker was working as i haven't used the machine in long due to being away from home at uni but i am 70% sure it used to beep once when switched on. Another thing is ive tested the monitor with the laptop and i do get output so the monitor is fine.

Also when i switch the PC on an empty black screen is displayed, but when i unplug the monitor cable from the pc the monitor says no signal. I think this is just because the monitor knows the other side of the cable is not connected to anything. I originally thought, when i switched the pc on because there was a black screen(and not a no signal message on the monitor) there was an output from the pc, but i think its just black because the other side is actually connected to something, regardless of whether it is on or not as opposed to when the other side is left unconnected which is when the no signal message occurs. (Bit hard to explain this but if you dont understand what ive written here just ignore this paragraph)

Can anyone help me diagnose what is wrong with the PC please and hopefully urgently. I dont have any spare parts to test out like a spare cpu or motherboard which i think is my main problem. I have cleared CMOS by removing the battery. I have ordered POST Reader off ebay for 3 pounds but im guessing its pretty Sh*te so not expecting much. If anyone can help me figure this out it would be much appreciated.

A written reply/discussion would be most usefull but i have also added a poll just to see everyones opinions, but please do not feel the thread is poll only. All replied will be more usefull than the poll!

Thanks

PS- Sorry for the long message, just wanted to get every point across.

I say you take the POST reader but if that doesn't work it seems like its the PSU.

Cheers buddy, POST Card arrived today, plugged it in and all voltage lights come on (-12 12 +5 +3.3 V) but no error code is displayed. I removed all parts one by one and retried if i got an error code but nothing came up. Last attempt was nothing in PCI slots, no hdd, no optical drives, nothing connected to i/o panel, no ram but still no codes. Completely lost now, any ideas would be much much appreciated!
Thanks

Okay, took it to a local PC repair shop for a free estimate and they said its the motherboard. Will set me back 120 pounds and has a 30 day warranty. Price is too high for me so im going to order the motherboard online and fit it myself. Can anyone source me a compatible motherboard with my CPU, RAM and sata hdd. Needs to have IDE for optical drives and the connector for floppy disk drive aswell. PCI x16 atleast 1 hopefully. Used on ebay is fine by me aswell.
Any help would be appreciated.
