1600x900 settings on a 1920x1080 monitor

Hi, I'm looking for a new high-quality monitor. Currently, I have the Acer: H2O3H, looking to get the ASUS VS Series VS247H, which has a 1920x1080 res. If I play games at 1600x900 resolution with the VS247H, will I get a black border?
FYI: I'm not really technologically inclined, so sorry if this seems obvious.

No, games will scale to fullscreen by default. You'd have to go out of your way to get a black border.

You can turn down the resolution on said game to 1600x900 but only in windowed mode. So you will be able to see the desktop behind it, rather than a black bar.

You can set it to whatever resolution you'd like in fullscreen mode as well-- it will scale, even if it's the wrong aspect ratio.

For some reason this doesn't work in many games, AC4 an example. You can play at higher settings when you decide to play at 900p instead of 1080p, but those black borders are staying. Any solutions? It's just that 900p lets me run BF4 and games like that at very high/ultra instead of medium/high.
