my father and I used ai suite 3 and found out that the highest the cpu could go was about 4.4ghz at 1.264 v and the temp stayed around 28-35c and when stressed got around 55-65c but ai when we clocked it to 4.6ghz it crashed, we want to know if it was the volts because it did applied it and the volts were 1.316 and the temp was still in the 30's c. so is their away to use ai to go higher than 4.4 and keep it stable or is it better to use the bios?
system:
Maximus v1 formula
intel i7 4770k
asus geforce gtx 780 directcu ii oc
Phanteks PH-TC14PE
patriot viper 3 16gb (2 x 8gb) 240-pin ddr3 1866
cooler master haf 932 advance
corsair ax860

I'm using ASUS Hero MOBO, initially tried AI, got me to 4.6 and worked pretty nicely. But decided to tweak voltages in order to obtain the best performance/temps harmony. Performance-wise, not much of a difference.

So far I've seen that AI haven't failed, but somehow it seems it did to you. 1.316V looks ok for 4.6, but if it didn't work out, go ahead and try manually, there's a lot of step by step guides to overclock haswell rigs.

http://www.overclockersclub.com/guides/overclock_intel_4770k_guide/2.htm check that one out, it's not the same motherboard, but the concepts are the same.

You also have to consider two things, first, not all the cpus overclock the same way, I mean the amount of voltage u may need for certain frequencies may change. Also, with that system setup, 4.4 it's pretty decent for daily use and temps are fine, while 4.6 will not really make a big difference in daily usage.

@edit: another two links that may help you: http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2013/06/28/asus-maximus-vi-hero-review/7 http://www.hardocp.com/article/2013/06/01/intel_haswell_i74770k_ipc_overclocking_review/6#.UsJeNfTuKPt

Good luck!
