I am trying to upgrade my pc and need help knowing what i should upgrade.
I am currently running an i5 950, 480 gtx 12 gb of tri channel ram, 60gb ssd, 1000w PSU, and the mobo is an asus p6x5de i think.

What i want to upgrade is the GPU but i am not sure if it really needs to be upgraded, the benchmarks show it is still a decent GPU but thought i would ask here just in case. If it is a decent card i would like to upgrade my cpu which would mean having to upgrade my mobo and ram. What i would get it a 4770k either z77 or z87 mobo and 16gb of any ram. i am unsure what the big difference between the z87 and z77 besides one being new.

the only problem with that is my ram is tri channel...so i dont think it is compatible with the z87or z77(both support only dual channel). unless i am mistaken and i can just use 4 on my sticks for 8gb of ram in the z87

What games are you planning on playing? because right now your setup is still good enough to play everything. Your cpu is fine, you could run a 770 and still not bottleneck it.

So if your going to change anything just get a newer gpu for now, then get an EVO 212 cooler and OC your chip

i used to be able to run anything on the highest settings, lately i can only do meduim-below avg settings. i was thinking of the 770 but the price seems to out weigh the need for it

Well you could always use a 760 or r9 270x, with your psu if you find a year or so from now that it is not enough, then run sli and upgrade mobo and chip then. Besides that everything else is still fine

Your RAM will be fine. It will run in XMP mode which will allow 3 sticks to run in dual channel. I do this without any issues at all. OR you could just use two of the sticks and have 8gb RAM. That is probably the best idea.
