Need Help With Broken PC

Today I got the parts for my new PC. I Built the PC and got it to power on when I realized I needed to plug in the CPU power. My power supply didn't have a 4, 4+4, or 8 pin connector so I used a 6+2 pin PCI one. My PC would not turn back on so I looked around on the internet and someone said that doing what I did would fry my motherboard. I'm wondering if I did fry my motherboard and thats what is wrong or if it's something else.

what power supply do you have?

and yeah if you have used the wrong connector and forced it in to the socket you have probably destroyed the processor or motherboard or both
