PC Suddenly turned off

Hi, Please can anybody help?
I was using my pc last night and went to do a score index in Windows 7 x64. All of a sudden when running the score index the pc suddenly turned off and now wont turn on. The small green light is still lit on the motherboard and graphics card but when I press the power button on the front of the case it does nothing and is totally dead? There were NO strange burning smells. Could this be my PSU or other?
Basic spec;
P5K3 deluxe, motherboard
Q6600 core 2 quad
8gb Gskill ram
AMS 7770 2gb graphics
550w PSU

Your psu size is fine so there shouldn't be a problem delivering power to your system. However what brand and model is your psu?

Do you have a spare psu that you could try instead? I believe the psu isn't actually supplying 550w to your system anymore. I'd also believe that your psu would have been running at maximum loads which could have triggered the shut down.

I don't have a spare PSU, but am going to ring a friend later on on the off chance he may hopefully have one. If not I can order a PSU online today if I need a new one. What size Wattage PSU do you recommend I order and are there any makes of PSU I should look out for. I do have a couple of hard drives and fans also running in my PC and was considering a small overclock from standard in the future. Thanks again for your help!

I'm not sure as to whether you can overclock with your cpu and motherboard as Im not familiar with them however the size of the psu you'd require with overclocking would be about 600-650 with that gpu.

I'd go with brands such as Antec, Corsair, XFX and seasonic.
Have a look at this list. It can give you an idea of the quality of power supplies to buy.

Hi, thanks for your reply that is very helpful. I will have a look at a new PSU today and do some research into those makes with that wattage! This is my first tower PC so I do not yet have a good enough knowledge about overclocking but was thinking of maybe doing a modest overclock in the future from 2.4ghz to 3.2ghz to start off with if possible.
I will post back on here as soon as I have tried a new PSU to let you know how I got on with the fix. Thanks again for the super fast replies and for all your help. Kindest Regards!

no worries :)  Make sure when overclocking, bump up the values little by little instead of going straight from 2.4ghz to 3.3ghz

Hi, Just a quick update. My friend did not have a PSU I could borrow so I have just ordered a great condition second hand Antec Signature 650w PSU. I thought it best to replace my PSU with something decent so it will be up to the job when I look into overclocking my PC in the future. It will be with me in a few days so will update again once arrived and fitted!
If anybody has overclocked a similar system to mine it would also be great to hear how they got on! Thanks!

Hi, I just received and fitted my new Antec Signature 650w PSU today. Not the most fun job changing the PSU but Plugged in the PC after fitting and it started up perfect first time! Thanks For all the help! Was worried it could be something else but it was just the PSU. Lets hope I have more luck with this better PSU. Thanks again for all the help Symsus! Much appreciated :)
