I understand that this question is asked a lot, but does anyone have a general idea of which date it will be? I looking to build a hi-end gaming pc with best possible hardware during this time frame, and i'm planning to use it for awhile before upgrading. Hence, I fully understand nothing is future proof, just looking to spend on what is best at this time.

Well they released the 780 ti just over a month ago so i'd expect the 800's to be out in about 3-6 months.I'm just hoping that it is in 3 months or so...I have been saving up money...and the games as well. I bought the xbox just to kill the waiting period off, and the graphics are just shit haha. Anyways man, I saw your build with the GTX 680...that's what i'm aiming for. I'm gonna spend a lot on this build and use it for a long while. There's no point in keeping up with the highest end of tech all the time..it's just a waste of money.

Eh my build listed is my old comp (I gave it over to my wife as a peace offering so I could upgrade
) I just built a new one 2 days ago, Guess I should update the list. I'm now running a i7 4770k 16gb ram and waiting on my MSI Gaming GTX 780 Ti - should be here any day now! (Only reason I upgraded was because my wife's aging laptop couldn't handle the games she wanted to play) kungfury7 said:

The 780ti was very promising for me though...if the GTX800 series come out like late 2014, I might have to make do with it. But it's not really much a difference FPS wise compared to GTX 780.
Its about 20% better FPS than the 780 at stock and the Ti overclocks better. But anyway i went with the 780 ti because I game on 3 1920x1200 res monitors and needed all the power I could get without needing to deal with SLI.

10-11 fps is huge. I know the difference between 40 and 50 fps can make or break a win in a game like bf4.Well sure...but it's not in every game though. In Crysis 3 there's not difference in FPS at all. But the again, it's for you to decide whether it's a worthwhile purchase or not. Price gap is huge with GTX 780 and TI version.

I heard the 20 nm gtx 880 might be delayed until late 2014, this makes sense because of the die shrink and complex architecture.
I also heard a rumour that AMD will start selling their next gen 20 nm cards in early 2015.
I believe the gtx 780 ti is a response to the 290x because Nvidia will always do what it can to keep the performance Lead.
I just upgraded from a gtx 780 to a 780 ti and in 1440p the TI blows the 780 out of the water...

How much money do you have to spend on a GPU?I don't really have a cap on it...but definitely I will be getting the highest end of single GPU graphics card Nvidia has to offer. Excluding something overpriced in ration to performance like the Titan though. Looking to get the GTX 880.
Nvidia's top end Maxwell will definitely be on 20nm and that's process wont be ready until Q4, if you want the top end now its the 780TI.

Expected date which can be confirmed from various sources on internet for the release of Maxwell series is End of Q1 of 2014 but initially they will be releasing the laptop series GPUs (Confirmable on only source) and subsequently releasing the desktop series GPUs. CES-2014 is underway, we may hear something in it as well. Their new Tegra k1 series of 192-graphics core has been announced officially. thing is they usually start at the low end of the new series first, so even when the 800's come u realy won't want the first few, so I'd say unless u realy wana wait a lonnnng time u better go with a 700. if ur worried bout vram & performance there is realy only one 2 options , a titan with 6gb, or, 2 of the 770 4gb's sli'd. = more vram and power than a 780ti
yea but the 780ti leaves open the option to sli that which would be more powerful than 2 770's. Im looking into maybe getting a 780ti classified but im looking at the kingpin model aswell and trying to see the differences. I am trying to figure out why the kingpin model doesnt come overclocked the same as the regular classified. I know the kingping has the voltage unlocked which will allow for higher clocks than the classified which is good. I read reviews that the classified had alot more room to go in terms of overclocking before it hit its temp barrier but since voltage is locked it just wouldnt go past like 1.3v i think. I wanted a maxwell card but its starting to look like nvidia is going to jerk us around and im not waiting another year to buy a gpu.

The GTX 800 series will probably be using the new 20nm architecture from TSMC and reports say that production of the 20nm node will start in a few months time. So it will problem reach consumers second/third quarter this year. I'm going to guess August/September for for the GTX 800 series if it is based on the 20nm node.
If the next series is based on 28nm again, then we will see a small performance increase at best but it would be released much sooner (next few months). I think this option is far less likely though.

The confirmed release date for the gtx 800 series gpus is Q1 of 2k14I didn't believe that until recently. It appears TSMC no longer has issues with 20nm chip production. As a matter of fact, it has been ramping up production since the beginning of this month. We might get too see GTX 800 series sooner than expected, maybe an announcement in Feb.

It's not only chip production, the Maxwell GPU is complex - I've heard from several online sources that the 800 series will be delayed until the end of the year. That's okay the 780 ti is an excellent gpu.
Do you have any source for that? I have been reading as much as I could about the 800 series, NVIDIA never mentioned any problem beside the production of the 20nm chip by TSMC.

What yall arent understanding is the mobile cards are said to be released first and also the first of the series only being the 870 and 860 stuff. The flagship 20nm 880gtx everyone wants wont be out until later this year. Also wouldnt make ANY sense to release another flagship this close to the 780ti. The card worth getting isnt going to be out until end of this year. Hopefully sooner so i can take advantage of my step up program from evga but i dont think in 90 days we are going to see the 880gtx
