Exactly. But that small percent difference you list im sure gets bigger as you go up in resolution. The 780 is a great card no doubt and the 780ti is for the extreme high end enthusiasts but to deny its sheer performance in modern software is incorrect. In my opinion it was worth the purchase because when next gen cards drop I will snag another 780ti classified and rock out with my ***k out.
Here is a review that refutes Photonboys calculations.
http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/gpu_displays/asus_gt...
The 780 ti in general has lower frame variances and delivers a smoother gaming experience.
Silicon lottery is a very important factor when making calculations because not all cards have the same overclocking potential.
If I still owned a 60 hz 1080p monitor, I would probably save the money and buy the 780 however @ 1440p the 780 ti is the way to go in my opinion based on my hands on experience with these cards and multiple reviews.

This, right on the money. Not every GPU will/can achieve the same overclocks. I'm sure a golden 780 could beat an average 780Ti, but that's completely based on your luck.
Methods of benchmarking such as the one used by Linus do not always accurately reflect real world results, because his benchmarks are always overclocked, and are subject to variances in the silicon lottery.
This link confirms that the 780 ti is approximately 20% faster than the 780 and is designed to overclock better than any other Nvidia GPU.

The literature below is from the Nvidia website.
For the aforementioned enthusiasts, the GeForce GTX 780 Ti packs one final punch: Power Balancing. Designed for overclockers, Power Balancing dynamically adjusts power draw from the 6-pin PSU connector, 8-pin PSU connector, and PCI Express interface port, enabling overclockers to push the GeForce GTX 780 Ti further and harder than any other GeForce GTX 600 and 700 Series Kepler GPU. Previously, overclocking could unbalance the draw of power, suddenly maximizing the limits of one of the three sources, immediately putting a halt to any additional overclocking. This significant change enables overclockers to get more from their GPU without resorting to warranty-breaking Overvolting.
50% faster than the GeForce GTX 680, and 20% faster than the GeForce GTX 780, the GeForce GTX 780 Ti is the world’s fastest GPU. Ensuring that power is put to good use in this Holiday’s AAA, combat-focused action games is NVIDIA’s The Way It’s Meant To Be Played initiative, which has enhanced your most anticipated games with exclusive NVIDIA technologies like GPU PhysX, TXAA, PCSS, and HBAO+

I understand that this question is asked a lot, but does anyone have a general idea of which date it will be? I looking to build a hi-end gaming pc with best possible hardware during this time frame, and i'm planning to use it for awhile before upgrading. Hence, I fully understand nothing is future proof, just looking to spend on what is best at this time. All speculations, info from anonymous bust trustable resources, basically just anything is welcomed
It's not time to build a high-end rig. Don't do it!. Wait for Haswell-E 14nm processors and 20nm GPUs. Don't waste your bucks!
Something interesting might be coming out in the second quarter of this year.
Because in a EVGA Facebook comment someone complemented Kingpin on his variant of the 780 ti and he responded by saying that something even better is coming 2nd quarter of this year.
Could this be the 790 or a 880? Could Nvidia come out with a new 880 based on 28nm with a lower TDP that is more powerful than the 780 ti?
Maybe they will release a fully enabled Maxwell based on the 20nm process at the end of this year or early next year. "880 ti"
The comment was deleted so maybe Kingpin made a mistake.

I know however they can build another Maxwell chip using 28 nm like they did when building the 750 ti.
It does't sound realistic however why would Kingpin say faster cards than the 780 ti Kingpin are coming in the second quarter?
Kingpin is probably privy to Nvidia secrets because of his affiliation with EVGA.
Maybe EVGA will be releasing a 790 kingpin edition lol

they are getting ready to release the 800 mobile series. i know its not desk top graphics but it is at least something
pretty impressive if the performance scaling is what we can expect for desktop graphics it is going to be def worth waiting for

I don't think it would make sense, business wise to release cards that are better than the 700 series just yet. At least there's no need to rush them out on the market as the competition doesn't require it imo. I think the card manufactures would appreciate it if they didn't have to adapt their production lines to the new technology just yet. Also giving the distributors the change to sell out their stocks before launching a new product. I would be surprised if we are going to see the new cards this year. Maybe some intro cards will be showcased by the end of the year.

I dont get the HASSLE!??
If you´re scared that your Build will be outdated, never Build a Rig at all.
THIS is the fastest moving Market today and your parts will always get "outdated"
at some point.
Yet, HIGH END RIGS will last you way longer than a affordable one (makes sense, doesn´t it!?
) since
Manufaturers want you to stick with High End Components once you went down that Road.
So a GTX x80series (480,580,680,780....) will always last you longer than a GTX x70 and so on, and so on.
Buddys of mine are NOW playing on 580s and still can play at High/Ultra Settings and get decent fps numbers, but the coolers start to boost it now and in a year they should upgrade IF they want the highest of settings in all new Titles.
However that is about 3,5years of lifetime then, whats a hell of a lifespan for a gpu in the terms of highend gaming.
And the Haswell-E will be on a new socket using ddr4..... now i dont know about you, but i sure wouldnt get the first shipment of chips and boards.....let them be released, fixed, and decreased in pricing
and also ddr4 prolly will come with some childhoodissues that i dont want to deal with^^
Also the 6core will be a small upgrade to the 4930k, and the 8core haswell-e will start somewhere around 1000bucks, so keep that in mind.
Games in particular still cant really handle more than 4 cores, so a 4770k sometimes beats a 4930k in gaming.
And the 780Ti (trust me dawg, i got one) is a BEAST of a card....BF3 mp 64players, ULTRA settings and i am having a CONSTANT ROCK SOLID 60fps in 1080p not even dropping a single frame if the whole damn Map implodes in front of me.
And it isnt even in Boost or Gaming Mode, runs quite and gets at like 56°C..... so that piece of awesomness should last quite a while (especially since my main concern is not gaming, but its a pretty sweet bonus).
So yada yada yada..... just get a System, or wait until you stumble over your own beard.
BUT IF you want your Rig to last you a while you will always have to go Highend Parts and you always have to know that they will be outdated at some point in the not so distant future.

for me, it isnt the fear of being outdated, maybe just a little bit. I am building a new silent pc, and the 2x powersaving is great. It means i dont have to have high fan speeds to dissapate heat from the gpu.
I was gonna go for amd for pure performance/dollar
Its just so loud and hot, that i cant. Not even reference saves it. still runs 94 degrees.

Ok so noise2performance wise i can just tell you that the "MSI gtx780 Ti Gaming 3G" is a Beast and runs suuuuperquiet while reaching farely acceptable temperatures.
With the smaller architecture you should keep in mind that they also want to make architectures smaller to fit more crap/shaders^^ on the same space, so it will be relative considering cooling and noise.
780s/780Ti´s and TITANS are based on KeplerChips that by now are really at their peak, so if you buy one of those badboys now you get a worked over and refined GPU, if you go with 800series cards end of this/beginning of the next year, you´ll MAYBE stumbling over childhoos issues like heatissues, noiseissues that come from heatissues and so on and so on..... so if you dont want a laboratory rat for 600-1000bucks for a gpu, get one of the yummy ones that are out right now^^
like i said, they will put more shaders on there, whats awesome performancewise, but wont do you any favours noise or heatwise....maybe not even that much in powerconsumption, depending on how good they get the new chipsets to work off the first shipments.
With all that said..... get a HighEnd card now, or wait your butt off and get one later..... one way or another you will get a HighEnd Card and your Nerdboner is assured with that sooner or later
cheers mate

I see what you are saying, but we havent had a chip with issues for years. Ok the GTX 480 was loud and hot, but so is the 290/290x, better cooling fixes that.
The new Maxwell chips will be very impressive im sure.

I wont buy it as soon as it comes out. Btw, not planning to build it right now. maybe 3rd-4th quarter this year.
I am just very attracted by the low power consumption. I currently have a laptop which is quite noisy when gaming. That inspired me to plan a silent build, which i soon can build hopefully
btw, not going for something like the "OMG - 880TIboostglhghz edition" but something with more ram than a 770, lower power consumption and similar performance and price.

Time will tell.even on the new 800M only GM107 is the new part (860M, 850M, 840M). higher than that still kepler based. also when it comes to new node transition nvidia usually comes after AMD. it has been proven that coming late after AMD did not really pose much threat to nvidia.

Still its true that Nvidia tends to release after AMD to keep their strongest horses (like the 690 or 780ti) locked up
as a supershocker till late amd releases of a series of gpus.
so a good evga 770 just might serve you well, and if you build the rig in late 2014 the stepup program might just work fine, since i personally think that the real mean parts like haswell-e EIGHT core cpus and the higher end Nvidia GPUs will come in early 2015, rather than late2014, but thats just me speculating.
We´ll see, but since you still can play bf on ultra you got plenty of time to think about it

I'm hoping for a release soon, the 8xx mobile chips are out so it's frustrating.
I had an evga 750ti OC for half a day, I'm not sticking with a card that is so much louder than my old gtx 460 even though it's so muh significantly cooler to run and eats *so* much less power
I'm just left mad that only evga have displayport (for gsync) so I'm left hanging waiting for something else with that low power, but less noise.

Maybe this one would work for you
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
should make a lot less noise.
EDIT: Hmm never mind it seems right now they have an issue with the fans being set too high by default... This is a reply to one of the complaints
"I apologize for any inconvenience. I can confirm that we do have an update available to lower the fan noise for you. Please either visit our forums at forums.evga.com or contact our 24/7 support team at 1-888-881-3842 option 1, or by email at newegg@evga.com so that we can assist you with the update for your card."
So you might want to look into that before returning your card.

what about 4k gaming? or 1600p stuff? Lets see some benchmarks! lol4K won't be entering the PC market until there is a single GPU that runs 60fps constant on high end games. I mean 1080p was like "HOLY SHIT!!" but that was a gentler shift since 4K is quadruple that if 1080p. Can't wait until 4K gets a prime spotlight in PC gaming.

last weekend my current GPU started acting up(no suprise after 5 years). so i started looking at what to buy as a replacement. and for some reasons shops seem to be dumping the prices on the GTX 770. most shops seem to have these sales last till 14-04-2014, or until they run out of stock.. obviously they can't confirm anything about these new prices or why the sales end at 14-04-2014. but it makes me wonder if we might see a 860 or 870 around that day.

That is the card I had, the FTW with ACX cooler, I had the BIOS update too (after checking with the supplier it was ok to flash, as it was official evga they were happy) , hexus tested the bios mod it dropped the db level by *one* and evga said it can't be made any quieter. It still sat at 42% fan.
It's way louder than my gtx 460 which idled with the fans at ~25%, evga dropped the ball on an otherwise excellent card, they used voltage regulated rather than pwm fans. There's was talk on one forum of trying to add a resistor to them but they didn't think it would work because of the type of fans used and I don't want to mod a card. People suggested keplers bios tweaker too, but I haven't seen any success stories posted, so I think I did the right thing returning it, it's just frustrating.
The card went back already the day it was delivered, I'm just at a loss for it's replacement as it was the only displayport 750ti

I have to say on NVidia knows the release date. Knowing them we will know when its launching when its available for sale. They tend not to announce things with much advance, because they don't want AMD to counter them.
My personal fear is that NVidia somehow makes their 800 series fantastic for coin mining. I really don't want to see $800-$1000 gtx 880's IMO they need to offer two lines of cards, one that is gimped for coin mining for gamers at a reasonable price, and one that the miners can chase their "free money" pipe dreams like fools with and play 100-200% what the hardware is worth because they are in the midst of an mass hysteria.
Honeslty NVidia's prices are piggish enough given they no longer have any price competition for AMD.
Coins are like the gold rushes of days of old. The people who got in on day 1 have made a fortune, and everybody who follows in in the rush will barely break even, or worse now. I still don't see how earning just bearly more than electricty costs now will ever recoup the cost of that $6000 mining rig.

I thought they were out q2 2014 due to the delays on 20nm fabrication.that Q2 speculation actually was early estimation since early 2012 i think? back then most people expect TSMC 22nm/20nm will be ready for volume production in late 2013. so as usual they speculate the next shrink radeon will hit Q4 2013 or Q1 2014 and will followed by nvidia in late Q1 2014 or Q2 2014.

lmfao. Like i been saying this whole time. It just wouldn't make since to do the titan Z, Titan black and for companies like evga to be doing 6gb 780's if they were just gonna release the new 20nm stuff a few months after. Im betting on 2015 for the release. which quarter? i bet my money on late Q3 or early Q4 2015
