Hey Folks,
I’m looking to supplement my storage space with an additional 2-3TB hard drive.

I’ll be mostly using this hard drive as a media drive to:
1. Download large files (Direct Downloads, Torrents and etc)
2. Store photographs
3. Store and listen to lossless music
4. Store and watch large movie files and other media
5. Backup other crucial system files

I won't be installing any or playing games on this drive.
Essentially this new drive will be a heavy-use media center for me (so my SSD and black caviar doesn't wear out)

My current setup is
1) SSD - 250GB
2) WD - 1TB Black Caviar drive
3) Seagate - 700GB. Salvaged from an older PC. 5400 RPM
4) External - 1TB Drive (Backups)

I compartmentalize my usage like this:
1) SSD - Work only + System Files and Applications
2) WD - Games and music
3) Seagate - Downloads, Movies and everything else
4) External Drive - Backups

I’m looking for a reliable, long lasting drive.
I figured I'd post here for some feedback and insight before purchasing a drive.

These Western Digital Drives caught my eye:

1) WD Green
2) WD Red
3) WD-AV

I’ve never used any of the green, red and AV drives before and I’m not familiar with how they perform. From what I’ve read I’ve discerned that greens are “slower”, power efficient drives. Reds are slightly better performing greens with TLER. WD-AV are audio/video drives designed for surveillance cameras and do not have TLER.

I don’t think I need TLER and I’m also not entirely sure which drive to go for (OR if I should even grab a WD drive)

I think while a black caviar drive would perform better, it would be a waste of $ for what I’m going to use it for. I know I've only listed WD hard drives but i'm also open to other brands and suggestions. Feel free to suggest any hard drive you think will suit my purposes!

Thanks!

Caviar green for sure. It's quiet and also cheaper only downside is the speed which doesn't concern your needs :)

Would you recommend the WD greens over the Seagate Barracuda or TOSHIBA DT01ACA300? All of these are around the same price point but the WD is a "slower" drive.

Personally if you're choosing just to store data, the caviar green is fine. The seagate barracuda could be used for gaming so you could store and play games on that hdd. Those two drives are preferred over the TOSHIBA drive.
