What GPU should I buy

I recently bought a new computer and it has a geforce gt 635 I want to upgrade that but I am not sure to what my options are nvidia 780, amd r9 290x or wait for the nvidia 870 or if you have any other options for gpus that are less than $600 and can play most games on high settings.

780 is the best pick of those, 290 is a hairdryer and offers no extra performance. But if your old system had a 635, you'll need to make sure the PSU is cut out for the upgrade.

Correction, the reference 290/290x is a hairdrier, the non reference cooler 290xs are NOT.

A non reference R9 290x is a good 10 dB quieter than the R9 290x and is only 4 dB louder than a 780, 2dB louder than a 780 Ti.

If you wait until the end of January, non reference R9 290s will be priced at 420-460$, and R9 290xs 560-600$ (I Hope).
