I'm not sure if this is labeled right but I was wanting to try out steamOS but some people I was talking to, some of my friends told me that to install steamOS it would uninstall 8.1 from my system. Now this wouldn't be a bad thing if I had a windows install disk so what I am going to ask is has anyone tried steamos, is it worth it and it there a way to install it without taking out a hard drive without uninstalling windows 8.1

More about : steamos install windows support

Your friends are correct. Installing Steam OS will overwrite anything already on your computer. There are workarounds but they rely on you being fairly familiar with Linux. This is not a normal dual-boot situation.

Bear in mind that this is a beta OS, and very much a work in progress. You should only install it on a computer that meets the basic system requirements and that you need for no other purpose (with the exception of Linux Gurus). One way to do this would be to buy a new hard drive to install it on, taking all others out of the computer. This assumes that your computer is capable of booting from EFI rather than BIOS.
