Foreword: I realize that a better comparison would be with the r9 280x, but that is not what I'm wondering about.

I'm able to get a GTX 680 for 299.99 but I was wondering if instead it would be better to go for an AMD card because of mantle and get even more bang-for-buck. Currently the AMD cards I'm seeing are $199.99 R9 270X and several R9 280Xs at ~$330 (currently back order).

I've already looked into G-Sync and Mantle but I can't come to a decision. G-Sync seems interesting to me but the current cost for getting an appropriate monitor turns me away. Without the sale on the gtx 680 I would have opted for a cheaper GTX 760 at around $250 and would not have spent $300+ on a gpu.

TL;DR: Would a R9 270x at $199 be more bang-for-buck with Mantle incoming than a GTX 680 on sale for $299?

The 270x is more into gaming, the performace is kinda the same.
But Gtx 680 is also good in gaming but also in video editing. Those cuda cores helps you a lot, if you use After Effects or any of these apps the 680 is for you.
But for gaming I would go for a 270x.
