I was planning on buying my first gaming computer and people have told me it is worth it to build your own instead of buying a pre-assembled one. I don't want to spend too much, and my maximum would probably be around $900. I've picked out one on newegg and it seems pretty good.

Anyone have any thoughts on this one? Could I build one with similar components for less?

Solution
Actually seems to be a fairly decent system, a rarity among off-the-shelf prebuilts.

This is how much an equivalent system would cost you if you bought it all yourself. Where I could I went for the same components in the prebuilt, so deviating from that could get you cheaper/better components. The case and PSU is probably a fair bit better than the ones included.

i would go homebuilt (build it yourself) over a prebuilt (already assembled pc) since unless the specific parts are mentioned (which is rare) you dont know what you are getting.

could be a crap psu brand, lower end video card brand, cheap ram... you get the point. unless they specifically call out the brand and model you dont know.

if this is to be a gaming computer for $900 i would go amd instead. get a 8320 and a 970 or 990x chipset mobo and you saved $100 at least over intel which you could use to bump your gpu up to the next level which would give better performance.
