Hello there everyone!
My birthday is rolling around and I am going crazy setting up configurations for the computer of my dreams... and I think I've got it. The bottom line is I am making a very very powerful computer, capable of (finally) being able to run anything and hopefully max out Battlefield 4.

I was wondering if an AMD Radeon R9 280x with 3GB of dedicated v-memory is enough to handle BF4 on Ultra (1080p, MSAA), provided it is paired with a powerful processor and everything else. I understand that the 280x is a reputable GPU and is rather top of the line, and I would defintely get a 290x but I cannot afford it, this is pretty much my limit.

Does anybody out there have this card? I just want to make sure it's what I want and it will handle the load of these games. Thanks for the help guys.

Figured since this is a GPU forum I wouldnt post the system specs, but if you need them I can post them.

To be honest, the 280x should definitely suffice, the 290x would be overkill when you're only gaming at 1080. I don't own the card but I'm looking to upgrade to it as well and I was planning on using it for gaming at 1440 so you should be fine.

I own an Asus r9 280x dc2 top. I can max all games with decent fps except on crysis 3 having minimum of 28 fps when all is max and AA is x8 msaa. There is a lot of users experiencing game artifacts on BF4, search r9 280x artifacts bf4 on youtube. This can be fixed by adjusting power target to 20%. If you want to save the trouble buy an r9 290 or a gtx 770.

Wow, thanks for telling me exactly what I wanted to hear (kinda)! I am very glad this card has the power, and thanks for the help with the problem that I may or may not experience. I appreciate it man, thanks!

May I ask, what is your average FPS on BF4?

I don't play BF4. I play COD Ghost. If you can wait, save money and buy r9 290.

Asus R9 280x DC2 Top here as well, playing with everything maxed out @ 2560x1440.
I played BF4 with a GTX660 DC2 before, the 280x just blows it out of the water.
BF4 maxes out at 2.3GB?
And if you look at the price... >2GB Vram on a GTX770 comparable card for a pretty nice price, heck, some games it even hits GTX780 fps.
I bought mine mainly cause of Skyrim, although a 290 would have been even better for that.

The 280x will be more than enough, just make sure you're getting it at a fair price. MSRP price for 280xs are 300-380$. MSRP prices for R9 290s are 400-450$. Yet they're selling for like 100$ more than that because of litecoin farming. By now prices should have dropped though, as mining difficulty is increasing and cards are finally getting enough stock.
Here's a site selling 280x's pretty cheap:

You might have to wait a bit for them, and I don't really know anything about this vendor.

It will do the job, hell, I have 2 of them but right now the GTX 770 is the better buy.
