Only 5.92gb ram usable? - Windows 8 x64

Hello,

I just fitted a 3rd ram stick to my system today which brings it up to 10gb.

I have 2x 4gb Corsair XMS3 1333mhz sticks fitted and 1x Corsair XMS3 2gb 1333mhz. When i go to Control Panel ---> System it displays as 10gb but only 5.92 usable. Can anyone explain to me why this is? I'm fairly green when it comes to ram issues I'm afraid haha.

1)Is it a shop bought system?
2) did it display 8 gig useable before the addition?
3) did you have a deffinate need or app that required the extra ram? 8 gig is more than enough for normal or gaming use, adding more would benefit nothing.

Previously I had 1x 2gb and 1x 4gb and so it was displaying 6gb before.

Not it's not a shop bought system. Occasionally I edit video with Premiere Pro so the extra ram is helpful for rendering, also wanted the extra ram for gaming.
