Ok, so for the past four days all I've done is carefully pick out components for my new (overkill) rig. I'm aiming for something that I can upgrade in the future and play any game at ultra settings on a triple monitor 1080p display.

Question 1; Should I run three 27" or three 23" monitors at 1080p? I heard 27" is not ideal for 1080p but I'm a sucker for big screens, is it really that bad? My 55" tv is 1080p and the picture looks great!
I don't plan on running more resolution because I plan on streaming to twitch and the ideal rez would be 1080p to 720p depending on your internet upload speed.

Question 2; What do you think of my build?

*Updated*

CASE: Phanteks Enthoo
CPU: Intel i7 4770K Haswell 3.5GHz
GPU: Evga GTX 780 Ti SuperClocked
MOBO: Asus Maximus VI Formula
RAM: G.Skill Trident X Series (2x8GB)
SSD: Samsung Pro 256GB
HDD: WD Black 1TB
PSU: Evga Supernova 1000W Platinum
OS: Windows 8
Drive: Standard
Display: 3 AOC 23" LED Monitors http://

Let me know if I forgot something! Again, it will be used solely for ultra gaming and streaming at 1080p, is this setup ideal or am I spending too much money? FYI; When I stream, I'll be using my mid monitor for gaming and the other 2 for internet browsing/streaming application. When I don't stream I'll use all 3 for gaming.

Question 3; I want to water-cool the whole thing. The case I got is very big, I think TOO big but I guess it's ideal for cooling. I don't know jack about cooling, all I know is that I want it to glow blue like the edge of my case lol can someone set up a cooling kit for me?

Ok, thats it for now.

Q1: I have 2 23" monitors in front of me, and I can't really see myself in front of any bigger displays. I think 3 27" monitors would look amazing, but would lower my performance in-game because you can only see so much at one time. BTW, the 23.6" ASUS monitors are on sale on NewEgg.

Q2: DAYUM, SON. LET ME GET SUMMA DAT! If you think you're going to SLI, definitely keep the 1000w. But if you don't, I would drop down to maybe a 650w or 700w, same model. Don't forget Arctic Silver 5 for your CPU, by the way.

Q3: I'm too lazy to water cool. But I'm sure this will help.

first person shooter gaming is best done on displays which fit completely within your central vision area (ie a single 22-24 inch monitor). having a wider setup means that while you might be able to see more you also need to scroll your eyes back and forth which means reaction time goes down a bit. 27" would be too wide i would go with 22 or 23

personally i'd suggest something in the mid tower range. the full towers are huge (see my signature link of one next to a 40" tv) so often require some extender cables for psu cables and depending on where you put your drives you might need extra long cables for sata as well. i'd go with something like a 300r or 500r instead myself. your choice just giving you a heads up[/b]
CPU: Intel i7 4771 Haswell (3.9GHz Turbo) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
why did you pick a non k cpu with an overclocking motherboard? i'd either step up to a 4770k or step down your motherboard
GPU: Evga GTX 780 Ti SC http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
quite simply a 780ti is not going to be able to play all games across all monitors (5760x1080) on ultra. take battlefield 4 for example... the best you will manage while still keeping 50/60 frames per second is medium. now if you were planning on playing at 1080p and just using the side monitors for applications like teamspeak, your recorder, etcetera then what you have is fine. if you wanted ultra across all 3 then you ned to sli or crossfire. please see the benchmarks to proove it here http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/graphics/2013/11/27/battlefield-4-performance-analysis/5
MOBO: Asus Maximus VI Formula http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
great motherboard but totally unneccessary if you're not buying a K series cpu. please see the note below cpu. its also not required even if going with a k series and overclocking but if you have the cash... its definitely a nice board (i use one of the high end ROG gaming boards in my own system as well)
RAM: G.Skill Trident X Series (2x8GB) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
good ram with nice low timings. i'd get something clocked at 1866 if you can find some on sale (normally the 2x4gb kits go on sale... you could just buy two. your choice. what you have works but the other stuff might be a bit faster (or perhaps you could just run what you have at faster mhz by o/c perhaps
SSD: Samsung Pro 256GB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
great drive... i have a 256 and a 512 myself. average users really only need the 840 or 840evo though so you could go with a larger drive for not too much more or just save the cash. your choice really.
HDD: WD Black 1TB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
this is fine
PSU: Evga Supernova 1000W Platinum http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
a bit overkill on wattage dont you think? in any case i'd go with a seasonic, xfx or higher end ax/hx corsair psu instead. make sure its modular also. generally anything on the tier 1 or tier 2 list here http://www.eggxpert.com/forums/thread/323050.aspx
OS: Windows 8
your choice but i'd recommend 7
Drive: Standard one, not blue ray.
your choice

custom water cooling loops can be expensive. generally a good system can cost 20-30% the total cost of a pc. a good air cooled system is just about as effective though so... its not really worthwhile but it sure looks nice!

Ok, thats it for now.

Three 23" monitors it is! I do plan on getting a second 780ti in the future which explains the 1000w PSU. I'm so glad you brought up that my cpu was not an over clocking one, that's what this rig is intended for. I had no idea it had to be the K series. So is this what I need; Intel Core i7-4770K Haswell 3.5GHz LGA 1150?

You also mentioned I wouldn't be needing my current motherboard even with the 4770k, should I go with the Maximus VI Hero instead? Keep in mind I do want to double up my GPU via Sli in the future.

three 23" monitors is still going to be wide (about 4ft wide since they are approx 16" each) but not quite as bad as 27" monitors would be (about 6ft since they are approx 24" each) if put straight. since you will curve them to face you it will be a bit less. just trying to say how wide they will be so you make sure you have a desk which will fit them.

if you dont have a big desk another option could be to mount them vertically (portrait mode) or on a display arm (make sure the monitors support a vesa mount)

even two gtx 780 ti dont really need 1000w but that would work. again, make sure whatever you pick out si modular.

if you want to overclock you want the i7-4770k socket 1150 which yes is haswell. that pairs up to a z87 chipset socket 1150 motherboard.

entirely your choice on the motherboard. i personally use an asus rampage iii extreme rog on my older i7-920 (its about as top of the line as i could have went with a mobo.. somewhere like $300+) and although i really do not use most of the features it is very nice. it has bluetooth which is handy for when i connect up a ps3 controller (with motioninjoy software) for playing pc games or emulators without needing a crappy cable, needing to use an xbox controller or buying a special pc controller. the bios is excellent and i have really good raid support. if i did want to overclock its about as rock solid as i could possibly get and it supports some rather crazy voltages that my mushkin ram would just eat up provided i wanted to overclock them. oh and it looks awesome..

now... do you need all that? no. you can get stable overclocks on a much cheaper board like a z87-k however the ROG series boards do have a few things going for them. first of all they use the black/red color combination in case you care about matching parts. second they use higher quality parts generally. third they have lots of really easy to use overclocking tools. fourth they come with really good onboard sound which rivals some of the low to medium range slot soundcards. fifth they are about as stable as you could get for overclocking.

so while i said you dont "need" the motherboard you may "want" it. your choice completely. i certainly went with the upper end myself. the hero is a nice board also if you went that route.

remember that if you double up your gpu (sli) you would need to buy the same exact gpu (make, brand, model and same clock speed) if you want them to work correctly together.

One big selling point for me on the Formula is the sound quality who many reviewers have said is superb. I do plan on running a PS3 or PS4 controller when compatible for fpshooters. :p Thanks for the info guys, I have learned a lot. I will post more questions as I'm sure they'll arise.
