Hey, I'm looking to put subs in my 2010 ford focus but I have no idea what I'm looking at. I would like to spend no more than 300$ for the sub.

Looking at subs online, I don't know what whether to get single or dual or 10" or 12". Is there a difference between have a single sub with 600 watts rms and dual subs with 600 watts rms?

It would be great it someone can suggest some good subs as well as an amp that would work with the sub. I mainly listen to rap, heavy metal, techno. I don't know what sub or what wattage would suffice to produce really good bass with that type of music.

This is not really car audio forums but i have http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0068Y87WA/ref=oh_deta... with http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00281AFEA/ref=oh_deta... and it hits really hard. i would suggest pairing it with a really good amp too like http://www.amazon.com/Rockford-Fosgate-P300X1-1-Channel... rockford makes one of best amps you can get its worth the extra price premium 300 rms it will probably be around 370 rms from my rockford experience.

There is a difference between 2 subs at 600rms and 1 sub at 600rms. The 2 subs will be louder but you can have phasing issues which will mean a lower quality soound over a single subwoofer setup. 2 subs will also take up much more area and since you have a focus area is at as demand. I almost always recommend one subwoofer when doing an install. One quality sub is usually more than enough especially when done properly. I run 1 10" w6 sub in my jeep and nobody believes it's just one until I show them.
For your price range and what you listen to I'd recommend a 12" JL W3 in a sealed box. It's an efficient subwoofer and puts out decent bass. It doesn't produce some of the lows that others do but since you listen to metal you want something that it tight as well. I'd go sealed box because the sound quality over a ported is pretty large. If you just want lots of loud bass then go with a ported box and different sub but if you want quality this is what I'd recommend. If you're any good at building stuff, or a friend is, I'd recommend custom building the sub box as stock ones from stores aren't really designed to be the best for your sub. If not a sealed box will still do you good.
You should be able to find these cheaper elsewhere but this is what I'd recommend:
2ohm 12" JL W3

Alpine MRP-M500

Total price would probably be around t he $600 mark when counting the box and cables as well. So I hope you just meant subwoofer for the $300. If you decide to do this do the install yourself to save cash. I have no problem answering any questions on it to help you.
