I've been out of the game a while and was curious to know what my old PC is worth is it were to sell today. The original plan was to upgrade the MB and CPU, but I never got round to it. Cheers.

As a complete and working system, probably $300-$400. If you removed some of the nicer peripherals, such as the keyboard and mouse, that still wouldn't change, so if you like them, you could keep those for your new build, and buy decent, basic, and cheap replacements.

A pc will usually fetch more if it is disassembled and the parts sold individually.
That is because it is unlikely that a buyer will want exactly the same pc.
Find your parts in used condition on ebay.
Then filter on completed auctions,
In green you will see what the part actually sold for.

That's a good point, although you may not be able to get rid of everything that way. Unless you don't want your closet (or some landfill) filling up with obsolete parts, selling the whole thing just to be done with it is still worth considering. Check those prices as geofelt suggested, and see if what you're likely to get for those parts which sell is worth the bother of dealing with the parts that don't.
Edit: Dont' forget the time and expense of packing and shipping individual pieces vs. doing an in-person (in a safe place) whole-system sale, e.g. on Craigslist.

Thanks. I am after a quick sale, hence selling the system as a whole. Thanks for the input though.

That makes the price even higher on the 5970. I would sell that for $250 usd
