What happens if I go to boot a new laptop with no OS?

Am looking at getting a laptop but without an OS pre-loaded as that costs an extra £79 for Windows 7 and i already have one so there's no point. But if I turn it on, no OS, put the disk in and go through the installation manually where do the drivers for all the hardware come from? Do i have to manually put them on myself? And if so, do I need a driver to even access my router or is that just a simple case of connecting to it?

Windows usually have the needed driver for ethernet. You can get the other drivers from the manufacturer site (check firstly if available for the laptop model you intend to buy and the Windows version you'll install).

This is a genuine copy of Windows 7 with a key that isn't in use elsewhere? (Otherwise it isn't going to work.) Windows will install basic drivers to make it work, then you can download from the manufacturer's website.
