Hey guys, long time reader, first time poster. Thanks for looking!

About to overhaul my system and build a HTPC/decent gaming rig in one... Been a while since I've built anything so I wanted to run it past you guys before I dropped the hammer on Newegg. If there's any better options for a few more bucks, or anything that's total overkill for what I'm doing let me know! (Or if I'm better off downgrading something to beef up another area).

Mainly using for gaming (mostly MMO's and turn-based strategy.. CIV games, FFXIV, COH, Simcity, and an occasional shooter like BF4), and Video/Music cataloging and viewing. My main monitor will be a 1080p HDTV. Some streaming video. Tons of downloading.

CPU: i5-4670K Haswell

MOBO:ASUS Maximus Hero VI
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131989

RAM:16GB Mushkin Redline 1866 (2x8)

GPU:ASUS DirectCU II GTX770

SSD (Boot/Main game): SAMSUNG 840 EVO
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147248

Are my RAM/MOBO overkill? Should I downgrade one or both and pick up a i7 4770k with the extra cash?
Also I'm new to SSD's, should I use it mainly for boot or for everything? Is 250GB overkill?
And finally, should I get a aftermarket CPU cooler or will the stock one do?

I don't plan on overclocking, at least for now. Also no crossfire or dual GPU planned as is. Just trying for a stable fast reliable mid range system. Going to attempt it in a HTPC case, this one to be precise:

Sorry for the somewhat generalized questions! There are so many different ways to build for the same amount of money, I want to try and maximize the spending in areas I actually need the most. If there's anything I should make sure of GPU-wise for the HTPC angle please feel free to chime in as well. Thanks in advance!

I would recommend not to get the 16gb ram, instead, get 8gb and witht he money remaining get a regular 1tb hdd. Also if you want more speed and power, get the 4770k but like you said, you dont plan on to overclock so I would get the 4770 and also I would stick with stock cpu cooler. 250gb ssd is kind of overkill for just boot and a couple of games. Go with a 120gb ssd and try to upgrade the cpu or get a 780/r9 290

Almost a week with one reply! lol.. Thanks, I (halfway) took your advice and grabbed the i7-4770. I Kept the SSD since I may be using it more than I thought, but just grabbed 8GB ram for now which made up the price difference on the CPU. I can always grab more for the other slots but the CPU isn't exactly upgradable.

Cheers

If you are not OCing then get a regular 4670 and a motherboard with an H87 chipset

The money you save will probably buy you a small SSD to use as a cache drive

Nice case . Mines in a GD 05 and all M-ATX The case is pure quality as most of silverstones products are
