Hello everyone,

So I am going to be building a new PC for mainly gaming. I intend on being able to max out all settings on a 1080p monitor while playing games like Battlefield 3/4 and Crysis 3.

Unfortunately, I cannot decide which GPU to get. I am in Australia so seeing getting excited when I see a GPU for a rather low price and then finding out it's on NewEgg kind of sucks...

Anyway, I have found a few options but I am open to other ideas, as long as they are within the budget range of about $620 AUD.

Here they are:
Reference R9 290 - $499
Gigabyte R9 290 Windforce - $549
Sapphire R9 290 Tri-X OC - $579
MSI R9 290 Gaming - $595
Gigabyte R9 290 OC w/BF4 - $599
Gigabyte GTX 780 OC - $609

So those are my options.

Which of the above options do you guys think will be best, performance wise?

I don't mind noise too much, but if it is like a hair dryer, even when in the case, that will be a problem.

Do you have any other ideas as for my GPU solution?

I have heard of the heat problems with the R9 290, will they be any real problem?

Here is the rest of my build:

CPU: Intel i5 4670k
Motherboard: ASRock Extreme 3
RAM: GEIL Dragon 8GB 1600mhz
GPU:
HDD: Seagate 1TB 7200 RPM
Optical: LG
PSU: Silverstone Strider Plus 850w
Case: NZXT Phantom

Thanks for reading and thanks for your help :)

Go with R9 290 by MSI or Sapphire !! Both have good cooling technology and have good board

First off, thanks for such a quick reply!

How do you think those 290 cards stack up against the 780, considering that they are both overclocked?

R9 290 itself is a great card, if you overclock it wil give you much more improved performance, when you say r9 290 vs 780GTX they are more or less equal but in few games r9 290 beats 780

Once again thank you for a very quick reply.

I think I will go for the Sapphire, considering it is cheaper and about the same performance, now that the heat/noise issue is no longer around.

Thanks for helping out. :)
