Hi Folks,

I have compiled a little shopping list for the new computer I am building and I have made it a habit to get input before I commit to the purchase. I would like to know if all the parts are compatible. I very open to suggestions with regards to components that I may want to reconsider.

I'm not looking to build a supercomputer - but I would like to be able to play today's games on higher settings.

Current Build:

CPU - Intel E8400 Wolfdale C2D @ 3.6Ghz
MOBO: Gigabyte EP45-UD3P LGA 775
RAM - Mushkin 2x2GB PC-6400
HD: WD Black 1TB
Case - some old Xion Mid tower
PSU: SeaSonic X Series X-850
GPU: eVGA GTX 480

New Build

CPU: i5-3570K 3.4Ghz - $229
MOBO: ASUS P8Z77-V - $119
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB - $84 (I was thinking of getting 2 of these but is 16GB really necessary?)
HD: WD Velociraptor 1TB - $229
CASE: Antec 900 - $99

PSU - Keep current (SeaSonic X Series X-850)
GPU - Keep current (eVGA GTX 480)

Thanks in advance for any input!

May want to get a CPU cooler the Hyper 212 EVO is good (about $35), and if thinking 16GB of DRAM go 2x8GB, or get a single set of 4x4GB - don't get two sets with the intent of mixing them - it can be problematic - otherwise should be a good build

Thanks Tradesman1

I actually have a Thermalright Venomous X-RT (rev. sb-e) with the universal mounting bracket. It should fit on this new motherboard.

I've been thinking and I really can't come up with a good enough reason to buy 16GB of ram. For my purposes 8GB should be more than sufficient.

Looks good. You might want to spend a little more and get a new graphics card though. $100 more can really improve gaming performance. (Thinking gtx650 or 660)
