I'm rebuilding an old dell inspiron 530, and I upgraded my case to rosewill ranger m, and upgraded my Psu to cx430. I also have a gt 630 4gb (upgrade in summer to gtx 660). Right now I am debating between msi a75ma-e35 and the h81-p33 and the x4 750k vs pentium g3320. If I get the athlon, there is nothing too much I can later to, but with the pentium, next Christmas I can upgrade my CPU to an i3 4130 or some i5. Will the g3320 be really slow, I currently have a core 2 duo e4440, and yeah. I don't have enough at the moment to get an i3 (I'm 13). Can you recommend the parts please.

I would normally recommend a Phenom II x4 on an AM3+ board but they're starting to get really hard to find for cheap. That Pentium will be fine for a 630 but it's going to bottleneck a 660 pretty hard which I guess won't really be a problem when you upgrade your CPU again but just thought you should know.

A pentium G will be faster than your Core 2. A Haswell Pentium G would be roughly on par with an E8400 @ 4.0ghz. I would spend the extra $6 and get the Pentium G 3240. Gives you an extra 200mhz. Given how low end of a chip we are talking, I fell it is worth the added cost.

There is no real upgrade path going with the 750k. Kaveri was a letdown. What is your current motherboard?

Foxconn g33m02, getting tired of that dell splash screen :/
I can get a whole new mobo and CPU next year via my parents

Yep, you are right. Fm2 vs 1150, the 1150 , the pentium will be a bottnwck for around a year, though. I can get the fm2, overclock it, and get a good motherboard and good CPU next year.

I'm a big fan of the AMD APU's. An A10 will cost you less than $150 and your good for just about any games out there including BF4 (not maxed out though) without a dedicated card. Then you can add a discrete card later and the CPU will handle it well enough.

I can buy my x4 750k, in 4 months buy gtx 660 , any next year but an fm3+ and a 8350 or a 7850k. I prefer dedicated in my purposes.

I agree Kavari was a letdown...hmmm....can you possibly spring for at least a haswell i3 cpu? Or fx 6300+ am3+ mobo?

the haswell pentium would be pretty stout, I just don't think it would do that good in current games like bf4,etc. For single player probably fine, but I doubt multiplayer would play that good
January 29, 2014 3:24:42 PM

How about the x4? And also, which should I get, radeon 7870 or 7850 or 660 or r9 270

avoid the pentium g3220, i have it and with my hd 7850 it is laggy on very game, even old black ops, get a quad core 750k, overclockable to around 4.2ghz.

Keep in mind that using both of these CPUs to game isn't ideal. That being said, I have to go to the G3220. Pentiums peform well given its $60 price tag(!). The Athlon II X4 750k will fare better in games but it doesn't have an upgrade path.

Haha, my upgrade path will be replacing the damn thing! Lol, keep in mind this is a temporary build (8-11 motnhs) just when I make the upgrade in end of 2014 I will get cx600 and an i5 and some nice asus mobo

Depends on how paitent you are with dealing with the Pentium's speed, or the lack thereof.

Its going to be significantly faster than your old Core 2 Duo, keep that in mind still.
When to upgrade your pc and when to build a new rig.
Too often people build a new PC because the believe the hype that if your system is not newer than 2 years old you can not play the most current games. This is not always true, many older computer builds can still give a satisfactory experience.... See full content

Nope, decided to go for a fx4300 and a ga78lmt-usb3. Now, I can later go for something like a 8320.
Fx4300 @4.1ghz
Hyper tx3
ga78lmt-usb3
2tb seagate green
buying a 120gb pny ssd in the next week or two
cx430 v2
rosewill ranger m (upgrading to a new case, probably to a coolermaster n200)
2gb asus 7770
Can you help me chose a 40-55ish $ case?

Seems like such a great case, and I have considered it,but I have a bit of a sad space situation... Here is a picture of my setup, and don't have too much space on my desk. The little wooden piece above my pc is removable, except I woud need to move the whole wooden thing to the left. Here's a pic to let you know what I mean. The floor is carpeted, and my dog is always down there, so I like it on my desk.

The obsidian 350d is out of my price range, and it 16inches tall.

Yep, some Solid Suggestions. I kind of hate rosewill, just this case I have is SO flimsy, so I basically vowed never to buy another rosewill product, lol. Is the spec-01 micro atx? Seems reallly up my ally, even though it is a bit large. The 210 windowed is pretty sleek, but I am buying only off of amazon (sorry 'bout that), because I have some amazon giftcards recently acquired as my 14th b-day is approaching in late June. Do you think I should get a ssd or a case first? I will order either one sometime this week, possibly today.
June 17, 2014 4:31:43 PM

Also, I decided to only buy from reliable brands such as NZXT, Corsair, thermaltake (don't really like the looks too much), and not only for cases, but for all my other components aswell.

I know what you mean totally, and sometimes stuff on Amazon is cheaper than newegg too. Originally I had the huge and heavy Cooler Master HAF XM which is pretty much a full tower, I downsized to the Cooler Master Elite 430, and it looks decent, but it's extremely flimsy too, I thought of getting a Corsair case, that Spec-01 actually looks pretty cool, it's different at least from all the other plain cases out there haha.

I like a case to have a window, I think it's cool being able to look in, I thought of getting the mid tower black NZXT Phantom 410, it's like $99.

Some people only ever get one case forever and are done with it, I feel kinda weird changing around cases :p

June 17, 2014 5:05:21 PM

Really? First time I've heard that. Gonna be quite the switch hmm. Do you guys think the spec will fit nicely on the desk I posted and image of?n200 vs spec 01? Will my cx430 wires be long enough in the psc to go befind the mobo and into the 8 pin? Do I put in mobo or PSU first? Back in early 2013 I had a phantom 410 and a gtx 660ti and a i7 3770 and 16gb ram, but my dad returned it and got an iMac (eww) so I built this on hope to have a fast gaming rig eventually?). I want a case that I can upgrade to and move a bigger PSU, maybe evntaully an all in one CPU cooler and anew GPU into eventually. I will go Intel at some point.
Upgrades in this order ssd>case>monitor>PSU> and then probably my CPU>GPU. Monitor for Christmas, rest some point after Christmas.

yeah the Spec 01 should fit, it's not that much bigger than the Ranger M, it seems like it has decent cabling, probably better than the Ranger. It would also fit a liquid cooler later
June 17, 2014 5:53:32 PM

Will the spec 01 fit nicley? Spec 01 or n200? How many fans does it come with. My 120mm blue fan might look silly with the red thene. Why are the dimensions different on amazon then newegg? Is it worth it? Will it last me for 2 years? Looks pretty sexy, lol. Will my cx430 wires be long enough for neat wire meangment?
a b à CPUs
June 17, 2014 6:07:42 PM

I'd rather get the Spec 01, it just comes with the front red fan. The amazon spec might include the shipping container box itself, I noticed they were different too. You could either get some red cooler master or corsair fans for about ~10 bucks each. The cx430 should be fine, I did a build before with the cx500 and they were decent length

June 17, 2014 6:35:08 PM

Ok. I will use my 3 pin 120mm blue fan for a while. Does the spec have decent wire management options? Does it support only m-atx?

June 17, 2014 6:46:53 PM

Yeah, wow I'd get the Spec 01. It looks sweet. If I would have known about it, I wouldn't have gotten the N200.

The interior and spacing instead of the case both look very similar though. I'd say whatever "look" pleases you, go for it!

The SPEC-01 can also fit ATX motherboards, so it is bigger. It will be better for a lot of cables and big GPUs and coolers.

June 17, 2014 6:56:39 PM

yeah it's a mid tower so it can fix ATX motherboards as well, it looks pretty cool...although eventually I'll prob end up with the black Phantom 410, this Spec 01 looks cooler to me the more I look at it haha

Alright, awesome. Looks sick! I did some measurements, and it seems like it will fit if i just move over my mouse and keyboard and mouse pad a few inches. It'll take some getting used to, but should be fine. I'm kind of sceptical of getting the ssd. Is it actually worth it?

June 17, 2014 7:29:47 PM

yeah an SSD is totally worth it, even for a cheap 120gb one, although 250gb only cost like 30more bucks now days. The 240gb Crucial m500 is pretty good and I've seen it go for as low as $105 on amazon not that long ago. Your computer will start up so much quicker and everything will just feel snappy and load pretty much instantly....I'd never want to go back to a HDD based system now if I could help it

That's a great deal, but it's really not the best SSD. I remember when I was in the market for an SSD, I was considering the Kingston V300, and I heard a lot of bad about it. Low quality flash, lower than advertised speeds, and poor quality and reliability.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/7763/an-update-to-kingsto...

I bought a Crucial M500, and it is awesome. It is a lot better rated (about as well as the much more expensive Samsung 840 EVO) and doesn't cost much more at all. My computer boots in about 8 seconds, and I have a 2nd-rate AMD system like you.

I followed this guide with my bro's crucial m500

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ssd-performance-twe...

got a couple GBs out of it and less wear and tear on the HDD, a win-win to me.... I left the page file at 1gb on the SSD, on a mechanical HDD you can dedicate like 10gb to the page file, and windows will combine both of them, that's how I have my pc setup. Games like Arma 3 used to cry about running out of memory but after giving it 10gb off my regular HDD it never did again
